I cant get my 22re to disconnect from the transmission
 

im trying to remove my 22re with 5sp manual transmission and im pretty sure all the bolts are disconnected and when ever i try to hoiist the motor out the transmission is still connected and is lifting with the motor i dont know whether i missed a bolt somewhere or their just stuck together ??

ya kinda got to wiggle the motor so try again and recheck all the connections.

I had the same issue both coming out and going in and all I know is it takes a lot of wiggling and maybe a prybar to help split the two from the underside

x2 on checking all the all the bolts and wiggling..

though its is "possible" (but not likely) that the pilot bearing is seized onto the input shaft!

out of 30 or so separations ive only had 2 that were seized, and they are a pain in the arse!

Theres a bolt going in from the front to rear (into the bellhousing.. on the driver side above the exhaust pipe. Check to make sure you got that one out. It's a small bolt.

does any one know how to get to the bolt that is on the top of the transmission to the back of the motor

I've done it two ways: with a wrench from the top (fairly hard), or (the easier way) use extensions, I use 30 inches worth, and a swivel socket to get to it from underneath the truck.

I was able to do it with a socket wrench. Had to to it little by little, but I got it done. The easiest way for me was to go in behind the engine (between engine and firewall)

As for separating the engine and transmission, I was in your shoes about 2 months ago. I couldn't get them separated for the life of me so I got really pissed off (anger is the key to working on the truck) I got under the truck, put my feet on my driver's tire and shook and pulled very violently. Anger is what you need.

Same for getting the engine and transmission together. Just shake it violently. It'll go together/come apart.

Unbolt your rear driveshaft, hold the transmission up with a jack, remove the crossmember, slowly let the jack down so that the engine tips backward until the rear of the valvecover touches the firewall (Sometimes the motor mounts won't let them tip that far). At this angle it's fairly easy to remove the top bell housing bolts.

i remove my shifter boot and use a few extensions takes about five minutes.. oh wait i have a bl :)

well i ended up takin front and rear driveshafts loose droping the crossmember(i guess thats what is called) i supported it with a jack and with an im pact and about 20 - 25 inches of extension i got it out. that was it it came right out thanks for all the help!!

that was exactly the way it went good description i just wish i read all this first i was determined to get it out tonight no matter what

Separating didn't go too bad for me, it was getting them back together that sucked ass. I was able to get it close, maybe an inch or 2 apart, and then get the bolts started and they pulled it into place as I tightened them.

Drew303 mentioned the bolt that I missed. I was installing mine, and didn't discover that I had missed it until I was working on something else (was wondering why I had an extra bolt laying around :oops:)
