Hyper Extened CV joint

I have a 94 4runner SR5 4WD and I was in the middle of doing a BJ spacer lift and I hyper extended the inner CV joint. I was wondering if toyota used the tripod type ( aka trunnion) of the ball style joint.

The inner joint is a tripod joint. Just remove the axle make sure you still have enough grease in there, re-install the boot (if it's not damaged) with new clamps, then re-install the axle.

If the new lift is going to overextend the joint, you may not want to use that ball joint lift, OR, use a drop bracket in conjunction with the lift. Have you already installed manual locking hubs?

ya I have manual hubs and a diff drop but when i was pulling down on the spindel i hyper exteneded it my self. So i should just remove the axle and press it back in?

If the boot didn't tear, getting the joint re-seated is all you'll need to do.
I had a similar thing happen with Scuba's truck when he and I were attempting to install the bj spacers on his truck (truck RIP)- had to tip the spindle out so the ball joint would clear the UCA and the inner joint on the passenger side became dislodged. A little finesse and the joint went back in to place with no problems and no damage.

or if your boots have already separated, you just end up looking at this :hillbill:

and judging by the amount of grease stalagtites and stalagmites... your boots were gone for quite a while.

and oddly... that doesn't look like a tripod joint...

haha, oh yeah... that's a combination of original shafts from 91, T-bars torqued, and a failed manual hub that decided it was going to stay locked
