How much did you spend on your 22re rebuild?

Alright lookin around to see how much you guys who have rebuilt the 22re have spent. machine shop costs. rebuild kit costs (where you got them from also) just entire pricing to see if I can pull it off. i have pretty much a $2000 budget for it.

I spent $4,000 when it was all said and done. Parts, labor, shipping...everything.

I had 22re preformance find a block that did not need boring so I could use all stock (new) internals. New crank, rods, pistons, bearings etc. I did use one of there head castings with the port and polish work etc. They put eveything together for me and shipped it off.

Of the $4,000 I spent at leaset $500 on oil, fluids, filters, new misc. parts. to get it running.

I have no doubt this will get me another 250,000 miles before I will do the same thing again. I documented everything to see how much more eveything will be in 20 years...

$350 in shop labor from a VERY reputable shop.
Block: tanked, bored, decked, resized rods with new bushings, checked crank and caps
Head: tanked, decked (bottom, intake side, backside EGR), new valve seals, seats, polished factory valves, & complete assembly
NPR pistons & rings ($85?), Ebay gasket set (45?), Ebay timing cover (30?), OSK timing kit ($80?), OEM oil pump and water pump ($90?), headstuds, OEM headgasket ($48?), Ebay King-brand bearings ($32?), Ebay freeze plugs ($12?)

Im sure I left some things out but it's a very budget build

I spent less than $2000 on my budget performance 22re build. I basically bought complete sub-assemblies so I wouldn’t need anything machined. Buying things like the head can actually be cheaper buying new, than rebuilding your old.

Many items here came from ebay:
Brand new short block (new crank, new bearings, new pistons, new rings ect)
Brand new big valve head assembled (1mm oversize)
Rebuilt rocker assembly
Engnbldr 261c crawler cam
Engnbldr performance high volume oil pump
New head bolts
New water pump
New timing chain w/ steel guide
Reused the timing cover
New gasket set

The engine noticeable low/mid range power gain over the tired stock engine.

If I was doing it again I would spring for a better gasket set. Despite cleaning all the parts and torquing everything to spec I had a couple of very minor oil leaks which annoyed me.

As another alternative you can buy 'performance' long block engines on ebay with some performance upgrades for less than $2000 as well. These of obviously wouldn't compare to LCE or 22re Performance offerings, but if you are on a budget they may be something to consider.

Also, be sure to replace the fuel filter while you have it apart, since it is so much easier to get at.
