How much CV angle is too much?
I have a 1.5" lift and it works out great, but Im not sure how much is too much on the cv angle. how much angle do you all have?
|
Your not going to hurt yours with that small of a lift. I think CV's go to about 35 but a stock toyota U-joint can reach 45 no binding. Not really recomended to do that but it can be done.

Easiest way is to jack up the front such that the front wheels are at full drop and then spin each one by hand and see if they CV's are binding.
You should also check and much sure that they don't bind when totally stuffed, however that's going to be harder to do. :) Fred |

What Fred said. Hey that rhymes.
|
I hate putting on hubs when ADD works so well :-/
hmm... |
Leave the hubs locked, and its like ADD. When you wheel you lock them when you air down. Or in winter time just leave them locked for the duration of the snow, thats what I do. Really helps on hwy driving to have unlocked hubs.
Anyways, im running about 1.5" total front suspension lift over stock. I have 0 binding at full droop. I wouldnt see you having a real problem untill you got to around 2-2.5" over stock. |

dont ask why I was wheeling with no shoes :D ive broken a lot of hubs and Ive seen a few exploded toy hubs.. either or can fail. I will keep the ADD on for now, see how eveyrthing holds.. so far so good after 4 months. if I had it any higher I would def get hubs though. |
dirtboy what actually failed. was it the add system or the hubs?

Weird, I've seen a lot of people say with 1.5" BJ spacers they don't get any binding at full droop. When I put mine in I couldn't even turn the wheels from the binding at full droop. I added 1/2" of spacers to the bump stops and it only very slightly binds now at full droop. The 4crawler 1" diff drop helped a little.

The left CV which actually seems to bind sooner I replaced less than 6 months ago, the right was on the truck when I got it 1.5 years ago.

Okay....rule that one out....;)
Sorry, don't know what else to tell you, then. |

dont ask why I was wheeling with no shoes :D I won't ask that question. I'll ask the much, much more serious question which is "why were you wheeling alone" ? :) Fred |
I can't tell the difference whether my hubs are locked or unlocked when I'm driving on road. I unlock my hubs to limit wear on the boots.
