How Long is Your Clutch? (Lasting)
so,
i've got a 90 ext cab, p/u, v6, 5 speed manual. i'm at 186K on the original clutch. anyone beat that? (i'm wondering how many more K's i might expect.) thanks. -alaska |
are you the original owner?
im on my 2nd clutch at 158k. and my 3rd is on the horizon :D |
I went 220,000 on the factory clutch. With me being such a quick learner, I promptly went out and bought an OEM clutch kit from the dealer. I expect to change it in another 210,000 or so...
|
yes, i'm the original owner who stalled the thing the first day i drove it off the dealer's lot!
|
ive got 140,000 on mine had to replace the clutch master and slave cylinder about 40,000 miles ago clutch was still in good shape
|
I had an 87 4Runner that I bought from the original owner and learned to drive stick on. I bought it at 192K miles and the clutch went at 215K. It probably could've gone longer than that if I didn't burn it up learning to drive on it.
|
218,000 on the original clutch. I'm at 260k now with a MarlinCrawler HD clutch. Still have the original master & slave cylinders.

Whats the difference between an OEM and MC HD clutch? any reviews from people that have used it? i'm thinking of going with the 2,100 lb. is this gonna be any different than my OEM?
|
220k, 18k of it is what i put on, 3rd or 4th owner, 3rd clutch marlin crawler :)

Im sure the 2100lb one will a stiffer pedal |
isn't 1200 lb the same weight as a stock clutch? im pretty sure it is...
I wouldn't mind a stiffer pedal. grip and longevity would be nice |
OEM is 900lbs IIRC.
2100lbs is way overkill for a DD truck, but I have no idea what you use your truck for. I am just asuming it is a little wheeling and for the most part a DD. However, your left leg is going to be huge, just like pop-eye's right arm. |

I was thinking to go with te 1600 lb IIRC from marlin, I keep waiting for it to go, but haven't had any problems with it yet. Seems like the best upgrade without going overkill.
|
Oh 155k miles on the 81 and 193k on the 95, but when doing the head gasket I found some evidence the tranny was pulled before on the 95, so I assume it's not the original clutch, but that's just a guess. The 81 is definitely te original according to the original owner.
|
I wouldn't bet on mine being anything but original... regardless, it's only slipped on me after hours and hours in deep snow. I think the throw out bearing is going too. If it is original, it's right around 300k... clutch and MC are perfect. Compared to any American clutch though, it's beautiful!
|
My father bought a '94 like mine new in '94 and the original clutch got changed when we pulled the original engine out at 280,000mi. To be fair, he put at least 70% highway miles on it, so the clutch didn't get used much. I got my truck used and don't know if the clutch was ever changed, but if it hadn't, it went 180,000mi with lots left. I still have the old one, so I could see if it's at least an OEM brand.

First one was changed out not long before I bought the truck. It had done 240K miles and taught 2 girls (PO's daughters) how to drive stick!
