Here is a tip, drop the tank it should sit on the ground with plenty of slack in the flexible hose. Try getting the flexible hose off of the line, if you can't then maybe you can take the fuel line off. Not sure how much line you have? By the way I sprayed the bracket and fittings everyday for a week with penetrating oil. I think it helped.

just a tip.

mine died in under 40,000 its a 89 but then agian it sat for a couple years. $400 for a carter pump at bennett. yur not suppose to run it dry because the fuel cools the pump and without fuel it gets too hot. they do sell pumps that arent sensitive to temp. but there more money.

see how many amps the stock original pump is pulling! and then find out what the fuel pump is suppose to pull (in amps). maybe you can find this value in the fsm? then compare the two and make a decision. as the brushes in the fuel pump wear the fuel pump will pull more amps! also if you replace the fuel pump do the relay to! reason being you don't want to be using a relay that has been stressed with increased amps on a new fuel pump!
a little diagnosis can go a long way! mike
