This is not a hugely important modification but sometimes the little things make a difference. Perhaps you have a lady friend who wishes your Pickup or 4Runner had a passenger sun visor mirror. Here's how to swap one in. You'll need to go to the yard and grab a sun visor out of a 89/90-95 Pickup/4Runner. Find one that has the same interior color as your vehicle, and confirm it has a mirror in the visor. Remove the two Phillips screws and then unclip.

Here are two sun visors side by side. This is the drivers side, but the process is the same. I swapped the drivers side as well because the style was slightly different and I wanted them to match left and right.


The visor dimensions are the same between years, but the plastic pieces that the mounting screws go through are different. You need to swap them.


You can see it's held on with one of these serrated washers. If your local hardware store sells them you can grab a pair and simply cut the old ones and install new ones. I have never removed them without destroying them.




My hardware store didn't have any so I had to improvise. I ended up threading the shaft with a M6x1.00 die and installing a nut to keep it all together.


A bit of red LocTite will keep the nut from backing off. I found that a nyloc nut wouldn't thread on far enough to reach the nylon locking part.


And then re-install it like the original. Looks like it was supposed to be there.
