hood scoop intake
 

my hood has some newfound scratches through the middle of it, probally from a sandy basket or something, and im lookin for an alternative to actually having it repainted. now of course all my ideas have been shot down by parents, but im still interested. for a 94 pu, how hard is it to put on a hood scoop and where would u find a cheap kit or whatever. im lookin for total costs and efficiency.

also, im lookin at replacing the stock shackles with some longer ones and want to know whats the best way to obtain some. there are shackles at advance auto parts for about 15 bucks, but im not sure about the quality or the lift specs. im sure u guys know exactly what to do. lol. u always do. thanks.

First thing, about the scratches in the hood ... are they super deep? I had some pretty nasty scratches in my hood after a mudding trip (tree or sumthing) and i took a little 3m rubbing compund to it and it buffed right out. If they are battle scars ... like the ones deep enough to pick at with your fingernail ... personally, i think a hood scoop is just too much for a early pu. My ride's a 90 PU and i put small hood vents in. they look like nostrils and aren't overstated.

Secondly, are you sure you wanna bump up from the suspension? planning on blocking the back then torqueing down the torsion bars? ... that'll give you an uncomfortably stiff ride and low travel. Thought about a body lift? I have a 3in and i love it.

depending on the color of your hood, you could just find another one in a bone yard. or flat black it with a rattle can.

true, thanks for that. im not rly worried about the scratches, cause they arent very deep at all, just like some sand scratches, but its a black hood. i can get the hood repainted for pretty cheap, probally at the sme time im havin my dents on the drivers side pulled and painted. anyways, yea, i have thought about a body lift, but the $$$ is an issue. im just a teen and im not makin a bunch of money and the little i do make goes pretty much directly to the overwhelmingly overpriced insurance. sooo, when i see shackles that can lift an inch or two for less than 20 bucks... im all over it. but yea, the torsion bars are probally going to get cranked a little bit, but thats for cost efficiency, cause im going to do it right b4 i get my new tires and have an allignment then. kill as many birds with one stone as possible.

here's an idea - drop in a 427 cobra jet and make it a shaker hood. maybe a blower? lol

i'd say stay away from putting a hood scoop on. especially when it's not functional. the only car 1990+ that i've seen a fuctional hood scoop is on subaru's. People are just gonna call you a poser too... See what you can buff out and go from there.

The only faux scoop that looks good is the 3rd gen's but those stick-on ones look just like what they are.

BTW,Ram Air scoops were on the SS Camaros and the TA Firebirds and of course the Subi's competition the EVO had functional intake as well. I'm also not going to count the cars over $100k with functional scoops.

If you want to create a functional air scoop, it must be completely sealed with respect to the air intake assembly. Such a thing is not only difficult to accomplish but there is also water ingestion during heavy rain storms to worry about. The scoop is more than likely going to be placed off center to make it functional, if thats not the look you are going for, just put a faux scoop on.

87-91 turbo rx7 had a real hood scoop as well

If you want shackles its probably worth spending a little extra and getting shackles designed for your truck. WabFab, and Marlin both sell shackles
