Homemade headers, anybody tried?
I am just wondering if it would be at all helpfull to eliminate the crossover but still keep the stock manifolds. I would do this by capping the bottom of the drivers side manifold and making some flanges with some mandrel down pipes welded to them to bolt to the rear of the manifolds. It would not really be "headers" but it should help the valve burning problem by eliminating the "hot spot" on the 3vze at the stock crossover connnection. I would think it would flow a little better too. Kind of a po boy header I guess.
Has anybody tried this? Does it sound like a waste of time?

If memory serves this has been discussed many times. It's been done. Did you find it in a search? Try something like "eliminate crossover"

Yes I tried many different search terms. Stock manifolds, eliminate crossover, homemade headers, custom headers. I found nothing and now the only thread I find is this one.

Hmm so if your gonna do up a custom y then could you have it come off the back of the passenger side manifold instead of where is usually comes in through the crossover? Would this make the system more balanced or does that matter? This seems like a way better idea then headers cost wise. The real question is would it be a waste if I got bigger valves with my head rebuild?
