Well maybe someone can help me with an intermittent fuel leak. Today I started up the 4runner (89 V6 5speed) and really smelled gas when I started driving. So I pulled over and looked under the truck and there was gas all over the passenger side of the engine and tranny. So I got all worried but when I started it back up to drive home...nothing. No leak, no smell, nothing. It just stopped.
Any ideas? Is there some sort of relief valve in the fuel system that could have sprung? Thanks

I would put it on a lift or jacks, get some goggles and gloves, start the truck and look for leaks. Change out any dry rotted lines...etc.

i would guess that one of the o-rings in the push lock fittings of your fuel lines has gone bad. that is the first thing i would go after unless there is a visible problem otherwise.

Hmmm.....that's interesting. It leaked but then stopped and now it doesn't leak? Maybe the pressure regulator stuck and let the pressure get too high for a little while and a fuel line fitting leaked? There are high and low pressure fuel line fittings on the passinger side of the engine. The high pressure line goes from a hard line to a flex line there and I've had one leak there before.

Good suggestions goat. I will have to check into this a bit more and when it happens again I will leave it running and try to find the leak.

What did you do to your truck?! looks like you landed on an upright pallet...
as for the fuel leak you might check out the return line as an idea...

I would agree with goat that the regulator(fuel dampner) is a likley suspect. I had a similar situation where I smelt of fuel....checked it out and found a puddle on the passangers side under the backside of the intake manifold where the dampner goes to the rail.....just a thought

Don't let it run too long unless you have a good fire dept close by.
