holy crap this is getting old!!!
 

GRRRR!!! i have been dealing with this !@@$%^&& truck for going on my 4th month now. i ORIGINALLY rusted out a brake line going to my LSPV and set off on the glorious quest to fix rust. so throughout the past 4 months, i have been removing (and breaking) rusted parts, replacing as i go, struggling to find old parts, breaking a fuel line while removing the tank, struggling to find fuel line parts, realize i bought the wrong part and the search starts over. fast forward to current time. i finally get all my parts, and slowly and carefully put everything back in to my truck.

the last thing i need to do is put my gas tank back in. it's entirely 100% impossible without a 2nd person so i ask a buddy to help. we get the hoses/electrical attached and force it into position enough to get 2 bolts (1 on front, 1 on back in place. so we decide to start it up and make sure everything is good before putting the tank cover, filler neck, wheels, etc. back on. sure enough, major gas leak.

i pull the tank off, AGAIN. i have my buddy crank it once and instantly see the (NEW) leak. i broke the main line that the fuel line attaches too right as it makes the 90* turn to go into the fuel sending unit/pump.

AAARRRGGHHH!!!! question: can i replace the individual lines or do i have to replace the whole d@mn pump?

Probly just the sending unit assy.Which is high enough!How did you manage to break that?

I'm not sure, but that statement right there might have something to do with it.

Woah cool, I thought it was only me! I fixed such a problem by removing the s/u from the tank, remove pump from unit, carefully drill out the old steel feed line. Install a new rubber gromett and a new piece of steel line. Worked for me. There are other similar ways of correcting this problem, using similar methods with different material (j.b.weld). ha, i meant force "gently". the thing doesn't fit loosely in there. hell, i broke the damn fuel line off removing it and i could still barely squeeze it to get it OUT. i don't know how you're supposed to PROPERLY put them in, but both removing and installing it was a struggle.

I feel your pain - seriously. My truck has been getting a rust-ectomy the last several months. It's worth it in the end though! I am A LOT more confident in my rig now, knowing the metal is all solid.

Oh - and I had almost the exact same fuel leak when I was moving out to CO from OH, had to tow the rig from Grand Island, NE to Longmont, CO.
