high volume oil pump?
I've noticed that my oil pressure is lower than normal at idle. It was really low today after doing some wheeling, down to the point that it was just barely above the bottom line on the guage.
Does anyone make a high volume pump for a 22re? If not then will just replacing the old pump with a new OEM one stop the drop in pressure? |
Question is why is your pressure low? Oil? Wear on motor? what's doing it? You really don't want to throw a high pressure pump on anything without thinking about what it'll do. You could end up have seal issues by increasing pressure with a bigger pump. Not sure about toy pumps but they do make them for other things, and even with many other options in the system you still don't want the increase. There's usually a reason for the problem at hand.

FSM states 3-4lbs (forgey which)@ 750rpm seems you need to get a manual guage to determine if its low or not. The drop on the guage may be do to low level, hotter engine but could still be in factory spec.

You also dont want a high volume oil pump with out a higher volume oil pan for extra oil for it to pump from.

You mentioned that you need to change your timing chain. My oil pressure came up quite a bit when I changed my timing chain. There was alot of junk in the oil pan, just a thought.
Engnbldr makes a high volume pump but I don't see the need for it. Good trip to Cedro today, here are the pics I got. http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r.../junker009.jpg http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r.../junker012.jpg http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r.../junker013.jpg Robb |
Yeah I need to get that chain done soon. I just don't want to mess it up since that little white truck is my only vehicle at the moment. I'll start collecting the parts I need to do the chain and try to get it done before next month.
That wheeling trip this morning was a heck of a lot of fun. I didn't realize how slick all that was going to be and thought I'd do better. Now I know what doesn't work in the snow and ice. :hillbill: Thanks again. |
I have an adjustable pressure regulator from LCE, on my 22R. I have not run it yet, the truck is still being assembled.

junker, timing chain is dead easy..
Im not to mechanically inclined and i did an awesome job. and it was my first time tearing into a engine.. only hard thing was dropping the oil pan. |
P=VT.... pressure equals volume times temperature... (this is where a lot of the oil weight arguments fall to pieces since the volume of the thinner oil is the same as the thicker oil, but they think the thinner oil moves through the system faster {since it's thinner} and takes up the same volume but that's only true if the pressure remains the same....)
I'm sorry.... Did I say that out loud? |
