hesitation? fuel pump? TPS?

So I dont know if this is what would be described as hesitation. But when I go to accelerate in second gear, the truck feels like it's trying to pull hard and go fast, but then it feels like something pulls it back and it slows down. It begins to pull hard again, and if the RPMs go high enough it takes off like a bat out of hell and just zips off. This is barely noticeable and you'd have to drive it to feel it, but if someone was running, it's almost as if someone was tugging on the back of their shirt as they got faster almost as if to say "slow down".

How would you describe this? Is it related to a bad fuel pump? TPS is adjusted to spec, and the only code I'm getting is an EGR problem attibuted to a minor vacuum leak. But even before this code, the truck was like this.

Timed to spec, twice already. Plugs are fairly new (maybe 5 or 6 thousand miles on them) and wires are the same.

I checked to make sure my brakes werent dragging because my E-brake cable broke at the handle. Need to replace that, but it's not dragging the wheels.

I think thats pretty normal, especially if you have larger tires with stock gears. I don't know how bad the "drag" feels, but both my '93 and '95 didn't/don't really have much power until after 2800-3000 rpm in 2nd gear. Just don't step into it until after 3K rpm.

yeah x2, or if you feel strongly that its engine related run a can of seafoam though it, works wonders

It's not a lack or power I'm concerned about, so this shouldn't be thrown into the "more Hp from 22re" threads. It does have larger tires, 31s I think.

Everything is clean inside, so I dont think seafoam would get it any cleaner (I use seafoam every month or two)

To better describe it, it almost feels like I'm towing a trailer.

88 22re. I just rebuilt my engine, I have 31s, stock gears. Before I took everything apart I didn't have any hesitation. On the first test drive, I had extreme tug, to the point that I could only get up to 30mph at 4k rpm, felt like I was pulling a house. I adjusted the TPS and timing and most of it went away, just a little remained when around 2k rpm or on the freeway and the pedal was barely pressed ... it's really about how much the throttle cable is rotating the butterfly flap in the throttle body ... my TPS is old and upon measurement of resistance with an Ohm meter, I found that it is barely within tolerances, so I have less margin of error to hit the appropriate resistances at the right amount of opening. I would suggest that you test your TPS, you can find great detailed instructions at 4crawler's site here: http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTricks/TPS/index.shtml

Also, I just purchased the allen key and screws from him so that I can easily adjust my TPS.

Good luck :)
