Help me put this idea together....
I want to make a softtop for my 86 Pickup. I want it to be like a fastback top. It would mount on the top of the cab (at the rear) and go straight back and down to the top of the tailgate. In the middle, i'de cut a large hole in the canvas and sow in a peice of clear plastic. That would keep the rain out, but still make it possible to see out of the back on the trail. Look at this hummer, on the back you will see the "fastback" type top im talking about. I just want something original on a yota, and also something that will keep gear dry when im out wheelin or camping.
Help me come up with ideas or advice.

if you have access to a tube bender, make a brace along the backside of your cab in the bed, and something in front of the tailgate.
find out what kind of material is water/weather resistant and strap all the way over it.
real tricky part would be finding a way to seal it on the sides...

The OTHER idea I had is this...
Making an internal structure. Out of either Black PVC or metal if I can get a bender. Pretty much making a CANBACK setup. Have it go from the cab straight back, and have a flap in the rear go from the top to the tailgate. The rear flap and the sides would be made so they can be rolled up and out of the way for daily driving. This seems like an easier and more practical option.
