help! shorted the radio power now theres no cel

I was trying to install a new head unit, I dont know how i messed this up so bad, this is about the 3rd time ive installed one. First i got the power for it connected, along with one speaker, turned it on, worked fine except there was no sound?

I went ahead an connected the rest of the speakers, and didnt notice that there was an open connection for the yellow battery lead wire and it touched the metal frame of the dash. It didnt blow the little 20 amp inline fuse, but the radio wouldnt turn on after that.... I thought maybe theres a short in a different connection, so i unplugged them all except the power, and i had to resplice the red and black connections. when i was, the red jumped through the wire cutters and grounded with the black.

now theres no cel when i turn on the ignition, and it cranks but wont start. I feel like a complete dumbass and I checked all the fuses theyre all fine, could i have blown the efi relay? or even the ecu?

the cel may have even been off after the yellow wire shorted (if it did), im not sure. I really need to firgure this out though cause i have to go to school in the morning and i dont wanna have to drive the trail rig.

edit: forgot to mention this was on the '95

check your fuses- panel under the dash and one under the hood.
I think the EFI fuse for the 95 is under the hood.

nothing in the steroe harness is going to keep your car from starting if it shorts.

Do you have an alarm in this? Is the alarm getting power from the same wire that shorted? If the starter kill circuit could have been left open by the short?

You have two things wrong in here?

Post a pic of the wiring if you can and I'll try to help.

the only alarm would have to be stock, if it has one. I dont have a remote for the car yet, so ive never been able to find out.

When you are checking fuses are you using a test light/meter or looking at them? Use a tool(test light/meter), not your eyes. If you dont have either, use some jumper wires on a 12v light bulb and check that way.

Are you using stock wiring for the stereo install or are these wires that someone ran in the car to whereever for 12v constant power and ignition?

Is the wire in the vehicle that you are hooking to the red wire of your stereo(to turn on and off with the key) going to an accessory source line or ignition?

What the heck does "cel" stand for?

If you are using wires that you or someone else ran you are going to have to trace those wires and find what shorted out at he source of the power. If you are using stock wiring there is something else wrong because nothing in that stock stereo harness will keep your car from starting. Otherwise, everytime a radio was stolen practically, the car wouldnt start, and that doesnt happen.

im using about 2 inches of aftermarket wire from the previous head unit, i know those connections are fine though, theyre all crimped. the rest of the wiring is stock. I accidentally touched the red to the black and it arched.

cel stands for check engine light. it doesnt come on anymore when i turn the key on, the abs does though

ok well pull out your instrument panel and check the circuit board for broken or burnt connections for the check engine light. cause my buddy accedently shorted out his stereo and it burned the instrument panel board don't ask me how cause i wasn't there but it happened. but for the stereo i found that when i ran it through the stock wiring it would short and be all fuzzy so i ran all new wiring to power accessory and speakers and it works again.

ok, got it all figured out, the reason the engine wouldnt start was because the ign fuse was removed, i dont know why i pulled it out.... and last night i couldnt tell that the dome fuse was blown. so anyways, nothing was ever wrong, it was all me. lol now i feel like an even bigger idiot

edit: thanks for the help
