hello all,

which hitch will allow/provide enough space to run a 31x10.5 spare under my second gen 1990 4Runner? as it stands, the biggest spare tire that my u-haul hitch will allow is a 235/75 15.

i've seen hitches on the 3rd gen 4runner that are "curved out" to provide extra tire size, so i am thinking that there has to be a similar hitch for our 2nd gen 4runners as well.

I've always had a 31x10.5 spare under mine, and it fit with the OEM hitch no problem. I changed the hitch for an aftermarket one some years ago (local hitch and welding shop), and whatever they used, the spare still fits. Don't know what brand it is, however.

31x10.5 was a stock tire size, so the OEM hitch or an aftermarket copy of it should work fine.

hmmm...my 1990 4runner has a "u-haul" hitch, but it won't allow a 31x10.5 spare to fit. weird. i'm thinking that i should be on the look-out for an OEM hitch, unless someone can chime in to confirm a hitch brand.

can you please post a foto of your aftermarket hitch that allows a 31x10.5 spare to fit? thanks

well, i hope i solved my hitch issue that allows enough space to carry a 31x10.5 spare tire underneath. curt hitch #13094, which is listed to only fit the 1992-1995 4runners, but fits my 1990 4runner. definitely has more space for the spare, but still have to confirm that the 31x10.5 spare wheel fits, though. stay tuned.
