Heat sucks in my 86 toyota...please help BRRRRRRRRRRR!!

The temp gauge will barely rise above the C mark. I've changed the thermostat, but it still has crappy heat. It will heat up if I take it on the highway. The temp gauge will also rise just above the c mark, but as soon as I get off the highway it starts cooling down. Is my heater core clogged? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The HC is probably clogged no matter what. The temp guage, the sensor, or somthing inbetween is probably not working too. Personally I have replaced every single part of the cooling system, including the heater valve ( check yours) heater core, and lines. Fixing the blower and ductwork sill only gives me luke-warm air, but it keeps the window from fogging up.

PS delete the thread on pirate or you might get flamed enough to keep you warm all winter.

Uh, there was a vent on the driver's side as well Sherlock.

Amazing how much easier it is to wire things w/ no dash and HVAC junk to have to work around. Wires through the firewall...a breeze...hooking them up to the fuse box...piece of cake.

I had a perfectly good WORKING heater...unlike some people I know.

Since the engine never warms up, it sounds like you enginge is overcooling. Had the same thing on my 90 22re, but the new thermostat fixed it (old one was partially rotted, so always open) Maybe the new one is bad/opening too soon? Is the temp guage behaving differently at all since you changed it? It just seems to me that most clogs would cause overheating, not running cool.

I think the brake, gas, and clutch would be the limiting factor for foot space.

But seriously, When I hade all the crap out it was soo nice driving around. I felt like I had a big rig or something. If I could manage a defroster without the other stuff I would.

:pat: I think I got a new project next summer
