Headlight issues
Hey guys i just came from a small drive on the highway and noticed that my headlights weren't working anymore. No Hi-beams or Lo-beams, the indicator on the cluster wont even come on when flicking between the hi's and lo's. All other lights are working thought, sidemarkers, truck lights, signals, all but the main headlights. I checked the fuses and found none to be blown but i find it strange that the headlights worked yesterday and today there both dead? Could it be something else or only the blubs?

Did you try a spare bulb?
Do you have a test light? See if you get conductivity between the posts to ground on the lights. |
I highly doubt it's a blown bulb. Your talking 4 filaments that went out at the same time. I don't think so.
Try this: 30A Headlight Relay Under where it says HEAD http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/Images/EngineFuseBlock.jpg |

Yup. You should actually hear it click when turning on the headlights. If I am not mistaken it's just a 5 pin 30A relay. (take yours out to confirm though. But even if it does click, it still might not work. The fuses for them are split left to right not high and low. High, low and off is selected via the relay.

That's most likely your problem then. :great:

Oh thanks, the problem with mine is the the paper thats on the top of the fuse box is covered in oil so i can't actually see whats what. So your saying i should just replace the relay?

Hey guys just bringing this post back up. I just replaced my headlight relay three times, checked my bulbs and they look fine, checked the fuses there fine. This isn't adding up. Everything should be down pact correct, all the lights work except the damn headlights hi beams and lo beams. Also the hi beam indicator doesn't come on either. If somebody could please figure this out for me it would be great. I'm starting to really hate being home by 5 PM. Could it be something to do with the cluster? I did replace the bulbs on the cluster maybe a few weeks before it all happened

Bumping an old thread because im having the exact same issue on my '96 Tacoma... No high or low beams. I tried new headlight bulbs and relays, checked fuses too.
Did you ever figure this out?? |

Did you ever figure this out?? 1)If you're getting voltage to headlight fuses and relay, and 2)That dimmer combo switch contacts have continuity to ground. Fuses and relay supply positive side of bulbs (both low and high filaments), and dimmer switch provides ground to high beam or low beam whichever is selected. Absence of (1) or (2) would cause problem where both beams don't work. Got a schematic and voltmete so we see details of your circuit? Then we'll go from there. |
