Head gasket / Possible Rear Camshaft seal?
Recently I pulled off the driver side exhaust manifold to replace exhaust studs. While unbolting the crossover pipe, I noticed my heads were saturated in oil. I recently did head gaskets with oem parts, and had the heads machined less than 10k ago. The heads both looked the same on each side, in the pictures below is just one side. Have I blown my headgaskets? *included pictures of head to block in different location for comparisons*

Well its tough to tell from the pictures. Hopefully its not the head gaskets and its not likely. It could be the rear cam seals. The valve cover gaskets love to leak on these motors. Make sure its not run off from them.

Did you do it yourself? I just did my buddy's 22re head gaskets and he had the same thing going on. His cam seals pretty much fell out when I took the valve covers off. You need to put seal packing on them before installing, and along the upper edges before putting the covers on. His had absolutely NO seal packing on them.

I did do the job myself, I dont think I replaced those seals to be honest. I believe this is what you are referring to right?

Those are what I'm thinking of. Theyre just a thin piece of plastic that gets hard and brittle over time. When doing a job like that they really should be replaced. At the very least they should be resealed. Just a thin layer of rtv on the outside edge is all they need.

Yeah those. I'm not sure why I was thinking you were talking about the 22RE. You obviously mentioned head"s" and I should have realized that. I think my head was stuck in another post.

Actually found plugs in the garage in the rebuild kit I bought. I remembered I didn't install them. Install was easy, I used small suction cups. No more leaks for now!

were you able to get at them without pulling the motor?
