Has anyone upgraded a 1987 4runner brake cylider??
Hey guys,
I was watching an episode of Trucks on spike and they upgraded the rear drum brake cylinders on one of their project trucks.
Has anyone ever did that with an 1987 4runner?

Ive heard that you can use the wheel cylinders from a T100, there bigger and will help braking. Ive never tryed this, i just read here in the forums. If you try it and it works, let us know.

im tempted to do that on my rig, if i do it ill let u know.
....then again im tempted to mcguyver the air conditioning system from a ford expedition (oooooo so cold!) into my rig, lol. whichever takes priority.

For 4 Runners, the 86 model has different rear wheel cylinders than the 87-93 models.
I was sure I had an '87 rear axle, but the replacement wheel cylinder inner piston set-up was too wide. physically, the outer dimensions looked the same, but when bolted in place, the pistons don't collapse in far enough....so the shoes are out further and won't let you install the drum....
trying a '86 set tonight if they match the ones that were on it....
