guidance on where to purchase new engine for my 94 Tacoma
I am looking to purchase a new engine for a 94 Tacoma I just bought. Can anyone tell me where they bought a new engine from (websites / address?) and if they are satisfied? I am a not a skilled mechanic but have a mechanic I will hire to help me put the new engine in. Any wisdom or guidance would be much appreciated. Thank you. CH W.

Hilux to Tacoma
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Hilux
The Tacoma was designed for US buyers. The Hilux was designed for tough duty. I've heard it called an Africa Truck. Tacomas have softer suspension, among other Nancy-boy features.
That said, the engine options were totally different between the 1994 "Hilux" and the Tacomas. Does your truck have the 4-banger or the 3.0 liter V6?
I guess it doesn't really matter to me, I have no advice for you on that. If I needed an engine I'd probably be asking here too...
But you probably want to be asking for the right engine for the right truck.

I just bought a rebuilt 22r long block today for $1300 from japanengine.com - seemed like a good price and they seem to have pretty good customer service, we will see what happens when it actually gets here tho.

4x4Climber: I read your thread you posted yesterday. I appreciate your gracious spirit (and many others) and willingness to help old farts like me. You all certainly don't have to as you are busy working and living but many of you just seem to enjoy helping others. I had a guy in my congregation from Mich who was that way and he left a powrful example. Just wanted to communicate my appreciation. I bought this 94 Toyota pickup that is being brought to the house tonight and it sounds like I may be putting a new eng in it and so I will no doubt be reading much and probably asking a few questions along the way. Personally out of all the longblocks out there i would purchase this one without flinching if i had the cash... i dont like people touching my junk... but if i were to put full faith in a great longblock at a real good price (compared to other well known builders.) i would go with 22re/putney's..
great customer service. great products. They only put the highest quality parts available in your motor. And they give a 12 month unlimited miles warranty... And if a well built motor with good parts lasts that long... it should go another 100k+
Where i get worried is companies that do not STRESS high quality like these guys. Have done business with them, and so have many people i know...
LINKY 1895$ some people may say it is expensive... But when you get down to the fundamentals.. With the parts in this motor and the reputaion these guys have... I wouldnt mind the *expensiveness* as most old yota owners are cheap azzez anyways.

I have a Series 2 engine from them and I have been impressed to say the least. Same thing as said before, I went with them because of the quality parts they used. I even asked if they could find a block that did not need boring out so I could use all new stock pistons, rings, bearings etc. It is like having an engine from the factory. It added some price to the bill, but I fully expect it to last another 250,000 miles. Also, with the new rocker assembly they put on with the higher oiling capacity holes, it sounds like a modern engine as far as how quiet it is. Only noise is from the fuel injectors.

like stated above I would check out putney's. I built my own motor so I currently don't have one installed but I do have a buddy firing his up (from putney) as we speak. The only thing negative I have to say about Putney's is they seem to be behind in their build process as it took MONTHS for my buddy to get his motor. Now if its a quality motor and you have time to wait I'd say go for it...def dont waste your money on a lemon just cause you may be in a hurry, it will cost you 2x as much in the long run!
