gm 350 engine swap questions.

im looking at doing a 350 chevy swap. Im looking here http://www.northwestoffroad.com/part...ladapters.html Does anyone for sure know if a 4 inch body lift is really necessary to go off-road? And how do i tell if my bell housing is removable? I dont see any bolts but maybe i am just missing something. Also would i have to get a new speed sensor, and what about my tachometer?

Mods please fix my title thats suppose to say "350 swap questions"

i had one when i put a 383 in my sas'd 88. if your running ifs you can mod your oil pan to mount the motor farther down but i had a two in body lift and with the straight axle everything cleared fine i just welded the chevy mounting pads directly to the 22re frame mounts and voila enough room for a pusher fan and the distributor. if it were me i would go with a 302 not because im a ford guy :im not: but the dist is in the front instead of the back and then you could mount the block farther back. i also used a th350 trans with a 205 tcase so it was all chevy, it was cheaper than buying adapters and i just had to tweak my driveshafts a little

Dont go through NWOR. Bad customer service, and their stuff is crazy expensive. Advance adapters is the way to go.

To stuff a 350 in an ifs truck you will need a bracket lift, and a 2-3 inch body lift unless you want to modify the firewall with a big ass hammer

Download the manual on 6 and 8 cyl swaps from AA. Or order the hard copy, its a good one to keep in the bathroom.

Also, search the domestic engine swap section, there is tons of info on it.

this makes me wish I took better photos of an IFS 4runner with 350 at a local mud bog. I was more in awe of the fact it was still ifs and did not look much further to see what he had for a lift on it etc etc. all I know is it can be done with IFS, have seen it personally.

Let me be more clear. You need a lift that comes with a big diff drop (not the 1 inch one). You need it to drop down the front diff to clear the oil pan.

You dont have a choice of motor mount placement. The ifs set up keeps you from welding on mounts, but im sure you could figure out some custom mounts.
Also, the 350 is long, so moving it forward will give you problems with radiator clearence.

Have you thought about a 4.3 v6? Its a 350 with 2 cylinders chopped off.

And yes, as stated by me and camo, search. It will give you an idea of how much work a 350 swap actually takes.

i had one in my 86. i put Chevy motor mounts directly on the factory frame mounts.

i used a 3" body lift only. i also used a corvette water pump/pulley system that allowed me to run a dual core cross flow radiator with a manual fan. i ran a turbo 350/205 combo. 33's and 410's!

use a small dizzy and you wont have to beat in the firewall. i had to modify the oil pan slightly to clear the ifs chunk.

it is a pretty simple mod i thought.

did i mention how fun it was to drive?

If you are this far along in the process and you have this many questions, its time to try and hook up with someone local, sounds like you will need help if you go this route.
