Front lift
 

I recently talked to a guy who knows a good amout about Toyotas, hes a '03 tacoma guy, i was telling him about my lift plans on my 93 4Runner (LC coils in the rear and BJ spacers) and he was telling me that BJ spacers tend to wear out the ball joints and just arnt great news, He told me too look into companies like Total Chaos for an IFS lift. TC suspension systems for the front run into the $900s and im not wanting to pay that much. Is he right and if so what are the other options for my lift, ive done a few searches and havnt came up with any real good info. Any help?

I don't bring anything about Total chaos to the table, because i have never researched it. Revtek has treated me good. I guess that and a buck fifty will get you a cup of coffee. Good luck.

how big do you want to go?
what are your plans once you get there? trails/snow stuff, or rock?
what's your budget(obviously under $900 i see..)?

maybe someone who has serious miles on the BJ spacers can chime in for testimony to their reliability.. i am interested in that too...

the lower price the better haha, It would be a while before i could save up $900 to spend on a kit and still have more to do, for research options I just wanna know what ideas are best and what prices are available. I would like to be around 3-4" for lift, I dont want to be tooo high up, and my plans are trail rides. I just want something i can rely on for a while untill I get out of college or get higher paying jobs to get the big mods (SAS, swap out the 3.0 ect) for now I just wanna get a lift on for a couple years and start driving

There is a MESS of info on BJ spacers if you do a search.

What size tires are you planning to run on your 4runner? There are many wheelers that can tell you that a 33x10.50 will fit w/out a lift.

You might want to think about that before spending all that money on a drop bracket lift when you could beef up your protection, add some lockers, and give your suspension more travel. I'm planning on selling my 33x10.50s here soon if your interested. I'm lowering down to 31s.

Why do you want 3" ~ 4" of SUSPENSION lift ?

What size tires are you changing to (you must be changing else you won't need a lift to fit the tires that you currently have, right ;) )..

As far as "trail rides" are concerned and, if you feel that you must have a lift for maybe reasons that you can't explain (maybe just looks), and that fact that you don't have a larger budget, I'd suggest looking into a 2" bl.

That will give you a lot of advantages to use now, and a good foundation to build on now and later.

a second gen with cruiser coils and bj spacers is perfect for 33s. I would worry about getting the BJ Spacers. Ive had mine for about 300miles and so far it is fine. I know it isnt very long, but im not worrying about them. You said your gonna do trail riding right? You wont need a TC lift for that. If you do a lot of fast desert riding it is the way to go.

yea i figured that the TC lift would be for desert, but didnt know if thats what it was really limited too, Im looking to put some 33's or 32's underneath, whatever I come by really

CC and BJ Spacers will perfect if that si what your going for...where are you located?

and to add to the BL sugg. I was considering that briefly, but I got ahold of LC coils for $40, can probably find panhard drop bracket and extended break line for pretty cheap and then BJ spacers i can find for at MOST $100. So by putting on those components I have a lift that i'll never have to go upwards with, and wouldnt be all that much more expensive than the BL

A 2" bl will work just fine for 33's, provide plenty of flex, keep the COG low, relatively speaking, allow for some driveline lift (which provides more under vehicle with clearance, while keeping the COG low still), is well within your budget, and more...


Y'all that are recommending the LC coils and BJ spacer (basically a suspension lift), what do you think that's going to provide him (benefit's) over a 2" bl for the tires that he wants to run (32's or 33's) and the type of "wheeling" that he's going to do (trail rides) with a small budget ?

And what's it gaining you over a bl ?
It's loosing you flex, for any given tire size that the body lift would offer.

i've always read the opposite, Bj spacers can give more flex if used right, and BL gives 0 flex(correct me if im wrong) and the LC coils are supposed to be soft enough to have a ton of flex aswell... Of course this is just by piecing together previous readings, i could be wrong ;-)

to do a tc kit properly it is over 2k. just for the front.

Can you beat free?

33x10.50 on no lift (well, OK, I replaced the rear coils to get rid of the saggy butt). Mine do not rub AT ALL after removing the valance and pounding the pinch weld.

The money you're looking at for lift is much better spent on other things IMHO. Namely armor and lockers. 'Wheeling gets discouraging when you're beating the hell out of your truck. Knowing it's protected makes for a lot more fun. No mod increases the capability of the truck and PREVENTS damage like lockers. Locked front and rear it will go anywhere you'd describe as a "trail ride" and you haven't spent a dime on something you're gonna cut off when you SAS.

TC...where is your gas tank? mine hangs way down low. i dont see yours:D

I was hoping that TC would chime in for the fellas that are running 33x10.50s w/out any lift.
