Front Fender Removal - '89 4Runner
Hi all,
Did some searching here and saw that the front fenders are not only held on with bolts, but are also cemented onto the inner fender along the top edge. I am trying to remove the fenders to install new ones, and the recommendations thus far (in the posts I found via searching) are to just pry off the cemented portion with a blade and a BFH. I just want to make sure this is the best/proper way to take the fenders off. The 4Runner is not a trailer queen or anything, but I want to avoid causing unwanted damage to the inner fender/engine compartment. Any and all replies are welcome. |
Hair drier or heat gun, its a tar like glue.... heats helps but it's a mess.
If one could freeze it and then hit it quickly it might fracture?? :dunno Repo |
Heat gun. Good idea. :great:

Mine are just bolted on...

Once I unscrewed all the bolts, I just grabbed the fender and ripped off the top strip! Bolted on the replacement- no issues.

brake cleaner works real good and pry at them but let the brake clean work in there.

I used a screwdriver and hammer to pry off the fender. It's really not hard.

Fenders off. Heat gun, screwdriver and the BFH.

Glad you could get it off!
