front axle leak
I recently changed front diff oil and afterwords noticed a fairly large puddle of oil that had leaked from drivers side where the CV flange bolts up to the front diff.
Where is the seal at that prevents the oil leaking out of the axle tube? Should there be oil in that tube or is the seal at the diff? Edit to add... I had the front end jacked up for other reasons when I filled up the diff so I do believe I had it overfilled a little but am I correct in thinking that it still should not of leaked? This is on a 1989 pickup. |
Mine didn't leak. Never cracked into IFS axle. Now the solid axle I've been into several times. Look through the FSM will describe process. Pull parts schematic to get idea of assembly.

Can you point me to a link for FSM?

I found what I was looking for I believe. Looks like there is an oil seal at the diff. Anybody know a parts number?

90311-35032 looks to be the Toyota part number. Anybody know of non Toyota number that will cross at parts store?

you'd prefer a non-oem seal when the oem toyota seal can be had for $16 or less? good luck with your windmill quest. |
I just don't have a Toyota dealer within a 4 hour drive and was going to try to get this back together asap so trying to avoid ordering the seal online if at all possible.

your choice. i always buy oem toyota seals when they are available, unless there is strong evidence that an aftermarket source has an improved/better design than the original. if they aren't, i try to buy seals made by the oem supplier. last choice is aftermarket. you are replacing a seal that should not need replacing again under normal service for 250k miles minimum. it is difficult to get to and replace. why be in a hurry to use an inferior product? do you want to redo this in three years? |
If anybody wants to know, a parts store number is 710419.

Solid work posting back results you found.:great:
