freshly rebuilt 22re turbo dry starting?
just got done building the motor AND truck.. crank turned, new eagle rods, new pistons, bored .20 over rebuilt head, cam, ported, bigger valves ect. brandnew melling oil pump also.. i ran valvoline for 300 miles and a microguard (cheap) filter for break in and i figured it was the cheap filter. anyways, i changed the oil with more valvoline and a WIX filter hoping it would fix it and it didnt.. im gonna put real gauges in for oil, water and volts soon to see what the oil pressure really is. im irritated as hell cause i just spent 2k on the motor and i dont wanna hurt it, should i warranty my oil pump? any advice is appreciated!!

you got 300 miles it did not take out a bearing.
What leads you to think your having dry starts it does take a while to get the oil up in the head in these engines .
Why go with a cheap filter makes no sense.
i am thinking if your running the stock gauge and did not replace the sending unit you may be getting pressures that are off.
no big deal to install a mechanical gauge I am surprised you did not have one for the first start up .
If you had low oil pressure or none it would have went bang then.

It knocks a little bit when first starting. I've owned atleast 30 toyotas with 22res and none of them seem to do it as bad. I'll try and get a video. It didn't do it today.
