Found 2 things in my garage tonite-Need Opinions on 1

So, I'm TRYING to finish up all this work I've been doing and I ran into a possible problem, and new friend tonite.

First the problem - I just replaced the CV on the passenger side of the truck with one that I got from a friend (BLKNBLU), and when I was tightening the bolts that hold it to the diff, I noticed this small tear:

What can I do about it besides replace the boot? Is there some kind of sealant I can put on it? I inspected the boot all the way around as well as the front boot and that is the place it is torn. I would hate to have to replace it. I have some Blue RTV if anyone thinks that will work - it says it "Remains Felxable once dry"

BUT, while I was getting ready to start on the truck, this guy come walking out from my front yard:

I was told by one of my neighbors that its a Desert Trantula, but I have no idea was it was - I got some bbq tongs, grabbed it and threw it into the alley where I'm sure it will find plenty of scorpions and crickets to munch on.

dude, screw that spider; I woulda stomped on that SOB...

lol

but on the subject of the boot, yeah the CORRECT way to fix it would be to replace the boot, which requires removing the shaft and separating the joint there, and can be pretty messy and time consuming, but it'll be a done-deal

I assume that you MIGHT be able to get a little more life with some silicone though... are your front hubs manual or ADD?

I am in the middle of an Auto to Manual Hub swap. I guess to answer your question though - I have my hub assembly torn down where I don't have any hubs but by the time I'm done, I'll have manaul hubs

Then youd have to find a pressure washer to clean off your shoe and a shovel to pick up the damn spider.

ah ok

only reason I ask is because with the ADD's, I would DEFINATELY fix it or do something about it asap; you don't want that thing spinning all the time with even that little hole there, cause it'll sling all the grease out and then demolish the joint which btw is not good, lol

but since you're going to manuals, at least they wont always be spinning while driving, so it's not like it's a "omg I gotta fix it right now" thing...

you'd think I'd be use to some crazy insects down here in Fl, but no... I still hate them... lol, we've got TONS of black widows, but at least those are only like the size of your fingernails

I guess I should add that I know the boot was not torn before I installed it so I somehow did that durning the installation. Therfore it has not been drive that way and there is no chance any grease leaked out or any contaminants got in.

Try the goop but I really do not thing it'll hold up all that well. I could be wrong...My guess is that it'll fling out before too long and you'll have a mess. Remaining flexible is one thing, allowing to flex and spin, as it does, is another.

I don't like spider...yucky, yucky, eeewwwaaaa!!!

KILL IT WITH FIRE!!!!!!!!!!

I think RTV should work to patch that up. I know there's also rubber/vinyl tear kits you can buy, but I really think RTV should hold if you smear that stuff around. I got RTV all over the place during my first experience using it, and that stuff was hard to peel off.

I'll stop by Checker (O'Reiley) and see if they have some kind of patch kit of for it and if not I'll try the RTV. This is not my daily driver either so I'm willing to experiment and see what happens.

Thanks everyone for chiming in I appreciate it!!

Clean the boot off good with alcohol then use FIPG on it; that won't let go 'til hell freezes over!

I wish I could find a few $5's in my pool!

I have scorpions around my yard all the time, but not ones like that - I usually have the smaller bark scorpions. I usually leave them alone cuz they take care of the other critters in my yard like crickets and smaller spiders.

Why are you raising black widows jack? is there someone you don't like? planning to pull a "Honey Ryder"...

Personally any insects that could potentially kill me that I find in my personal space have a date with my bug zapper [tennis racket type taser thingy] or else they take a ride on the whirlpool express...
