Flowmaster part # for a 91 2wd pickup?
Hey guys my stock muffler is about to fall off and I was gonna put on stock type muffler but what the heck i want to live a little lol. Gonna get a flowmaster 40 series muffler, need to know what the part number is for the muffler for a stock style setup. Just want to weld it in and go. thanks
|
just go look for one with the same diameter inlet and outlet as your stock exhaust tube. it would be wise to upgrade your catback system..
|
anyone know an exact part number?
|
save up ur money and go with a 2.25'' cat back if you like it Loud go with a 14'' magnaflow if thats to much go with a 18'' ... i put a 14'' glass pack on my 22re with stock pipes and it didint do nothing just made a little louder
|
can't afford a catback just a muffler. Anyone know what a 22re is gonna sound like on a standard cab 2wd truck? Is it gonna sound like a buzzing hideous honda civic? I know it's not gonna sound like mustang obviously but id like it to be somewhat deep and mellow.

a 22re with a flowmaster 40 series two chamber that is....
|
Flowmaster 40's are going for about a hundred bucks these days...
I got an entire custom exhaust bent, cut and welded on with a 14" Magnaflow muffler and a chrome tip at a local exhaust shop here for $130. That's for killing the cat, 2.25" to the magnaflow and 2.5 out the back. He was in a good mood that day though and gave me a good deal, but you can probably expect to get similar for $150-175. Trust me, get an entire exhaust done. It makes a big difference. It not only sounds better but it made a big difference in power too. Don't even bother with a high dollar cat back prebent system. They are priced way too high for what you get. |
i had a delta 40 with a 2.25'' pipe it sounded good a little ricey after all its a 4bannger but when i got my header it sounded better i liked it
|
Instead of a flowmaster, buy a cheap turbo muffler and the rest of the exhaust system... Eventually get around to replacing the cat and adding a header.
Adding a "flowmaster" on a 4cyl is buying for a brand name... It doesn't begin to sound like a v8, won't give you any more power, and is a waste of money over something more generic. |

Was this on a 22RE motor? |
I really don't want to spend $100 for a flowmaster if it's gonna sound like a ricey honda. For some reason I thought since it was a "big" 2.4 liter four cylinder and it being a truck, it would sound much better and deeper than a ricer.
|
Flowmasters don't sound ricy, I perfer the sounf of a Flowmaster over just about anything on the markek, deep and throaty for a 4 banger. I have a Borla that is hollow, a 4 into 1 header and no calalletic converter, and 2.25 tubing from the header back. It is just about the loudest thing I have ever heard. If I had to do it again I would go Flowmaster.
|
It won't sound ricey, but it wont sound like a v8 either.
compare to a $20 turbo muffler... |
that settles it flowmaster it is, thanks guys..

your pipe diameter out of the muffler is the big factor in how it will sound. it will sound rice on a stock pipe. if you gonna get a flowmaster call your local shos and see what they charge to bend a couple pipes and weld it on for ya. otherwise if money is the issue id go get a factory replacenent and be done with it. turbo II's are ricey but with bigger pipe the larger 18 inch turbo II is essentially the same as a magnaflow. i had a 14 inch turbo II on my truck before and it sounded halfway decent with stock pipes, but i later upgraded to a flow 40 series and 2 1/2 inch pipe to a biiiiig 3 inch pipe out of the muffler. it sounds pretty good. ive heard the magnaflows and i think they sound very similar to the turbo II's
|
so its gonna sound like crap with the stock tailpipe?? why?
|
heres what my 22re sounded like with the stuff ive posted http://s63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...t=MVI_1209.flv
sorry the quality aint the best but u get what it would sound like..... also forgot to say i had a custom intake and a Lce header and a hiflow cat |
Here's a vid I made of my Magnaflow right after I put it on.
It's 2.25 from just ahead of where the cat was into a 14" Magnaflow, then 2.5 out the back. Since then the muffler has broken in though and is a lot louder. You get the idea though. http://www.ovrrdrive.made2own.com/Magnaflow.wmv |
both vids with the magnaflow and flowmaster sound good, definetly better than I expected. Doesn't sound like a 4 cylinder at all, wow. The magnaflow setup sounds much better than expected, i had a setup on my mustang and it sounded horrible, there is nothing that sounds better on a mustang than a set of flows. thanks guys.
|
hey guys should i go 2.25 or 2.5 tailpipe, the guy at the muffler shop says hes got only 2.5 flows. will this be ok? i want that deep sound.
