Finally Herculined the 4runner
I had been using the duplicolor bedliner for the past 2 years and constantly touching it up every time a rock hit it, so I finally broke down and bought some herculiner.
Took about 2 hours with an angle grinder and wire cup to make sure the herculiner would stick to the chrome of the rear bumper, an hour for each side. The actual painting of each coat only took an hour. I finished painting the sides over 2 weeks ago and there is still some herculiner on my legs and shows no sign of wearing off. It seems to be a hundred times stronger but only time will tell. Here are some pictures of the finished product and a nice Vermont foliage backdrop. http://lh4.ggpht.com/_HwSC_VYFb7g/Su...%20Truck_1.jpg http://lh6.ggpht.com/_HwSC_VYFb7g/Su...MS%20Truck.jpg For those of you interested in photography: Canon XTi f1.4 50mm 1/2500 And a HDR photo http://lh5.ggpht.com/_HwSC_VYFb7g/Su...tonemapped.jpg |

I had a friend in high school that used herculiner on his truck bed and didn't bother wearing gloves, that stuff was on his hands for quite a while. But seriously, the 4Runner looks good... |
Yep--nice truck but those images are excellent!
Thanks. |
Looks great!
NIce pics! :banger: |
ooo looks nice..
hdr pics ftw. |
I have a little under half of the gallon left and I have been resisting the temptation to paint the rims. Has any one done this? The only reason I haven't is I think they may not be able to balance the tires later or when they mount my new tires it will peal off.

Nice runner...good job......it seems to staring down those rocks and the stump....just itching to get on 'em
|
Put some on your skid plate.
Just an idea. I painted mine and TO ME, my truck looks a lot better. I am sure no one else notices, but screw them anyway. Alex |
looks good man! Had it on my old 4runner and makes me wish I had my 2nd Gen up and running still
90Runner, I hear you on not wearing gloves. I made the same mistake as your friend and it didn't come off for about a week |
nice rig! i put it in the floorbaord of my 95 p/u. got it on my hands and arms and it didnt wear off for about 3 weeks, so get used to it haha
|
Good job! As for the wheels go for it, as long as you get the wheels stripped down good and clean and put it on nice and evenly there shouldn't be any problem balancing or peeling.
|
I was going to comment on the slick photography. Canon cameras rock.

What make of fender flares on your 2nd gen runner?
|
What make of fender flares on your 2nd gen runner? They attach to the bottom of the fender well. I like them and they cut down on rocks hitting the side of my vehicle but I have to keep my stock rear bumper. They wrap around the underside of the bumper and attach to it, so I can't get a Marlin Crawler rear bumper unless I wan't to do alot of fiberglass work. |
Wheels should need a high temp paint. I don't know how the herculiner will hold up.

looks great. I did my rear bumper about a month ago and its holding onto the chrome nicely.
|
The front wheels are the ones you should be concerned with because of the rotors. I've seen Herculiner get soft on a hot day.
