Question ever put your cabover camper on your lifted truck?

if i can phenagle it with the 2 non functioning hydraulic jacks, i'm gonna put my cabover camper on my 4+" lifted 88 toy truck with the stock 28" tires. i've never tried this and wondered how scary it will be. it won't help that now i live in "one of the most consistently windy places in the US." i've driven without the lift for years with the cabover and it was never a prob. cept. for very high cross winds which i survived on the freeway by going slower. yes, it was plenty scary...
wind is not a prob. with the lift, 28's and camper shell. unless maybe it gusts to 70 miles per hour...

That thing is going to fly like a kite! Just kidding man but when i have one of my atvs in the back and it's windy i can certainly feel it. I would imagine it's going to get a little hairy when windy so yeah keep the speeds down. Post some pics if you get it on there.

i can do that
it looks pretty funny with just the lift and stock tires

duz your LSD work in reverse?
cuz my supra LSD duzn't seem to work in reverse
otherwise i love it
altho it can be tricky on sideslopes, like sand, less throttle is necessary if i don't wanna swap ends or sumthin

u know wut helps in the wind?
a trailer with sum weight
or 1/2 ton on the back bumper

with the cabover on, i never got stuck, even with open diffs. and passenger car tires
and i did a couple hills that in hindsight i probly would never try again
but i did turn around in sand washes a couple times when i didn't like the way it felt
coulda been just paranoia ...

Lsd works great. I daily drive my rig and unless i'm wheeling it i hardly notice the lsd is back there. The major difference is when it's raining. When i was at a light before it was the one wheel wonder every time i took off. Now not so much. I can still break the tires loose but it takes a lot more throttle. I'm assuming the supra lsd is the 7.5" model and in the front of your rig right? Well take into consideration it'll be harder to be locked up when turning since the wheels are moving at different rates. The friction plates most likely grab more in reverse due to the wear pattern being less used and the tires spinning at different rates. Might be the answer but then again take what i say with a grain of salt. It's just speculation.

Is the cab over camper going to be permanent or just for a camping trip or 2? My family uses a cab over camper on their '64 Ford and it is scary as can be goin through some of the windy valleys here in So Cal. I do not trust those things.

What year of Supra did you guys get your LSD's from? I am interested in getting one for the rear of my 2wd

lsd is superb
mine's in the stock 8" rear axle housing on my 88
i got lsd cuz i like the seemlessness and lack of banging and extra tire wear of lockers
i also wanted a clutch model, not a gear 'lsd'
i didn't even take mine apart, i just took it outta the supra 3rd member and stuck it in my truck's
it fits with no mods
you have to use a truck bearing on one side (where the axle slides thru) and a supra bearing on the other side cuz the lsd is wider than an open truck diff.
it will be obvious how to do it once you have it apart
supra turbos have em, a sticker says 'lsd' on the aluminum supra 3rd housing, if it duzn't say lsd, it duzn't have an lsd...
as i remember, you can tell it's lsd cuz both sides will spin, unlike an open diff.
newer models are 8" (7.8" actually), older ones are smaller and fit the front
i can't remember wut years, sorry
i can't even remember wut size the front diff. is ..., they are much harder to find
i still have the factory open diff. front

you don't even know the lsd is there
that's why i went with a lsd
plus i rarely get a wheel off the ground, even with ifs
basically desert here
it's fairly easy to break loose if desired in low traction situations
and real easily controlled slides, spins
i have a 22re with maybe 20 extra hp

it will infact slide easier than an open diff. cuz both wheels spin ...
if that's wut you're trying to do
with 75 lb. psuedo 35" dunlop mud rovers on 8" alum. mags
which measure 32 1/2" diameter aired to about 22 lbs.
and i have the supra 3.90 gearing

lsd and 2x will make an amazing difference in what you can do
make sure u use lsd fluid or additive or it gets ruined quick
supras have super small 3rd's, tiny amount of oil in there, they do overheat...
no probs. in the truck tho.

wind has to be pretty severe with cabover to get scary
but that wuz without lift
head winds and tail winds are no prob.

The thing I don't like is your vehicle just becomes a big "PUSH HERE" sign for any big winds that come up. I'm sure it can be done safely but I personally would stay away.

That would be sweet to toss a 7.5" Supra 3rd in my 7.5" rear housing. So all the older supras will have that sticker on the 3rd saying LSD. Exciting! I will roam the wrecking yards and see what I find!

Stay safe with the Cabover!

i can only remember once seeing a lifted truck with a cabover
it was a big ford without much lift
i hardly ever even see mini trucks with cabovers
i took mine over every pass in the rockies that wasn't a goat trail and all the western states
then i decided it was kinda stupid to waste that gas mileage and took it off
