Engine recommendations?

Going up the freeway today in my 95 4runner v-6 3.0 my engine took a dump on me. There is a really weird clicking/knocking noise in my engine bay at higher rpms. The car looses power and lost all power pulling over on the side of the freeway. My question to all you out there is what engine would you recommend for a direct swap or a swamp with not too much work, an engine with the power. I really want to put a v-8 in it but im skeptical. any and all help is appreciated.

if your looking to do a v-8 swap, it'll cost you a lot of money. i have a 81' toyota frame with a 95 extra cab and a LS1, and about 20 grand sunk in to it, but i also took everything apart and up graded all the bolts to GRADE 8 and put a trail gear 4" lift with hi steer and all the good stuff.it also depends where you live to, i live in California and they rape you on everything, i had to make it pass smog and chp safety inspections. i'll never do it again

Hate to tell ya buddy, but you got ripped off in a big way if you have anywhere near $20,000 in an '81 toyota.

To the original poster; a 350 swap can probably be done for the same as a 3.4.

I went with the 3.4 so I didn't have to explain a Chev engine in it!

Who wants to drive a Toylet?

;)

My main reason for going with a 3.4, though, was that it's more a less a bolt in with minimal fab required, and with no special adapters. Plus I was under a time constraint.

As for a motor? 3.4 is tested and true.

Holy crap man I was out my chair laughin on the ground, thats the best one I've heard in a while, wow, its perfect, some of my friends did the whole 350 crate motor swap in their yota and always make fun of me for sticking with the ol' 3.slow, but were never able to come up anything as inventive for my truck as that, Now i got ammo, thanks man :bigok:

Royalties are $1.00 per use!

Seriously, I love the 3.4. I'm thinking about posting a video so everyone can hear it roar...

Supercharger is on the list of to-do's. :D
