No way man, just get under there and unbolt the pipe from the manifold. Then take it off on the bench. It will be SOOOOO much easier when you can face it at eye level. I personally would completely remove the tranny before I even started taking the engine out. Then I would take out the grill and radiator. But that is just my style and I have a lift.

You have a 22R series motor...a night mare it's certainly not. It's actually pretty easy if you do everything a logical order.

Get an FSM, or Haynes/Chilton manual and read it a few times. It make everything a whole lot clearer.

And by the way, you do not have a "toco", you have a pickup. Tacomas only made their debut in 95.5

just some advice, take lots of pictures, it makes it alot easier to remember what goes where

I second the digi pictures

They make putting the stuff back together way less stressful. I have a small library of digital photos of my engine now. So when someone asks a question i dont have to go look at the rig, i just pull up the pics =)

real pictures beat diagrams anyday

what about color labaling the whires and hoses???????????

I use painters masking tape to label hoses and such. Blue or green. Write what you want while its still on the roll then pull it off and wrap it around in such a way you make like a little flag where the writing is. The painters tape comes off easy when you are done not like regular masking tape that sticks like crazy after a while. Get some pics of the way the wiring harness runs around and under stuff too. Its prolly gonna take you awhile to get it back together and trying to remember stuff gets hard. Draw little diagrams too. The more you label and tag stuff the happier you will be. Ask me how I know.
