ECU Repairs in Ontario for 3.0TD hilux

Hi all,

I was wondering if there was anyone in Ontario Canada that can repair ECUs. I have just bought a Hilux 3.0 turbo diesel that does not want to shift into Overdrive and most of these problems point to leaking capacitors in the ECU.

Thanks..

No ideas off the top of my head d... there are a few members here with those engines they may be able to help... other then that check out the UK hilux surf forum www.hiluxsurf.co.uk or www.roughtrax4x4.com a retailer/dismantler in britain they sometimes part out/repair trucks they may be able to help...
I'll edit the title of your thread to make it more specific as well

Hey there. I just came across this thread and was wondering if you had found a place to get yours repaired in Ontario. I have the same motor as you've got in my 92. I'm in Fort Frances and will be in Sarnia here in a week. Where bouts are you at? I'm having some major cold idle missing problems as well as missing when there is no load on the motor and you rev it some. And seeing as there are threads on replacing caps on both the aussie forum and the one I go on this is becoming a very common thing.

You should also check out www.toyotadiesel.com there is a thread on there right now on this same topic. 91diesel on there had the same issues as you and sent his to a place in Florida.

Anyways if you could let me know if you found something out I would appreciate it.

hey 82 (off topic alert) are you going to go south around through the states or do hwy 17 thing?
The drive south side through Duluth and across the north peninsula is very pretty this time of year some great places to stop like Ironwood and a few others. The roads are generally a bit safer wx wise than 17/11 as well.
Just suggesting...

Yup aviator thats where I go in the winter. Cheaper fuel as well. Also cuts 10 hours off the trip. I'll cross the border at International Falls then go back in at Sarnia. In the summer sometimes I will do the 17 as I like to camp for a few days in Lake Superior Provincial Park. One of my favourite places in Canada so far. They sure do get a pile of snow on that south shore of Superior there though. Last year my Christmas drive home took 27 hours instead of 17 hours and more than 10 hours in 4wd. Really glad I had that diesel then.

Do you do that drive often?

Not in the last 4-5 yrs but I did it a couple of winters in a row heading out to S. Man. to see a buddy and his family...
Great place to go if you've got a sled... real friendly folks... there are a couple of restos where you can stop and get pike for supper that was swimming under the ice that morning... very tasty... can't remember the names right now... just hole in the wall dive looking joints...
next time I go out I'll probably go through Chicago though... trip is supposed to be under 20hrs using the Superhwys...

yo here...did you found out a solution ?

i am electronic engineer for automotive market and play in there all the time...i am in quebec...so i bet you could ship that ecu to me to have it fixed.

fyi, toyota automatic transmission wont shift OD until the engine get to a specific minimum temperature...depending on year/vehicle, the temperature is read thru a specific temperature sensor, or thru the main engine temp sensor thru the EFI ecu/data buss...worth a look...

That is true and these caps failing in the ECU were making trouble codes come on for the temp sensor. That is what happened on 91diesels truck. Wouldn't shift into OD and had the water temp trouble code in the computer. When I get back down to school I just may see about talking to you about fixing the computer. Really annoying thing for an otherwise great motor.
