ECU Interchange

I have a '90 SR5 4x4, auto tranny, 3VZE powered pickup and have a couple of ECU's that I have scrounged up for spares. I put in one to try it out that came from a '90 4Runner with the same drive train and it seems to work just fine. Is there any real difference between a pickup or a 4Runner ECU anyway?

Thanx,
Bud

I know that there are different "part numbers" for just about every different year/model, but I don't know what the differences are.

If you aren't having any problems or CEL codes, I'd say you're ok.

I looked online but couldn't find the site that I had found a few months ago that sold ecu's for every model on the planet.

They had a pdf file chart that had "Vehicle model: OEM part#: Our part#" that way you could cross reference oem part numbers with their part numbers...and from what I remember, just about every freaking one was different.

I was looking because I have a 93 pickup, and on ebay there were used ecu's for just about every year other than mine...lol. I never got one because I wasn't sure.

Problem ended up not being the ecu anyhow...

i dont believe there is any difference between the ecus. As long as its in there and working fine you should be alright. ive run a few different ecus in trucks that they didnt belong in, all 22res though, but im not sure if any of them was from a 4runner one might have been. The only problem i ran into was that when i put an '87 ecu in my '90 it gave the '87 codes, obviously, but i was looking up the '90 codes so you can fill in the rest
