I usually go to the pass or don't pay guys down around the corner from where I used to live. They don't seem to care about much of anything, but I almost want to take it to somewhere harder on people just to see how it's really doing on anything besides a sniffer test.

Oh, I hear ya, SC.....
Just a personal note. Lately, I've had 3 different friends be pulled over on the street, near freeways/once in the middle of town, by CHP. They were pulled into a mobile station, after passing by an 'INSPECTION' trailer equipped with a Sci-Fi Machine that the guy inside looks through and reads the CRAP coming out of your tailpipe. They then quickly track your last smog to the station who passed you, and if you don't pass the mobile smog check you get a HUGE ticket and the Smog Shop gets a huge fine. The friends have been held up for over an hour, each time, while the CHP then go through EVERYTHING, including Gas Cap, under the hood where they match up numbers/parts, check the CAT, ......other related smog inspection bullet points.
I'm sure you are most likely aware of this new task force, ...but I thought I'd throw it out there, as I've decided to go 'ALL LEGAL' and, like you, run a quick free "test" at my buddy's 'smog station' to see if I'm doing well. I'm a lil rich, but nothing enough to 'set off' the "Mobile - CHP C.A.R.B. Stations".

Hey there chef, so I just came back from bedding the brakes, and went pretty well. I got out to the main road though and under hard acceleration, it felt like it was stumbling, making not very good power. I get out to check it on the way back and the wire for the number 3 cylinder had come off the distributor, I didn't really like how the clips feel with the NGK wires, but now I know they're not a very solid connection. On the bright side it was making almost as much power on 3 cylinders as my first gen, so hopefully it'll be good if all the wires will stay on. If not I will just pay the premium for dealer wires.

Oh, and my comment about smog was more relating to the fact I bought the truck from a used dealer that I wouldn't trust as far as I could throw him. As part of the deal, he was supposed to register truck and pay all the fees included. I found out months later when I got pulled over that he had just pocket the money that he was supposed to spend on that and went back tot he dealer to find that he had been fired for similar reasons. So, I figured he probably had it smogged illegally and sold it if that's how he did business, but since by the time it came around for me to smog it, I blew the head gasket.
As far as parts, it's all stock except the new cam and head, but it should pass no problem as long as everything else is sorted out.

Issues with the DMV pending, I'm not gunna blame anyone because I'm not entirely certain who lost it, but sometimes I wish people would LEAVE MY PAPERS ALONE. Title is AWOL and is needed to reinstate the registration. So frustrated. It's a chicken and the egg deal. Can't insure the truck because it's in my dad's name, so I can't add it to my policy. Can't transfer the title to my name because it's missing, FML.

Think I've found a way to transfer it to my name with the lost title paper.
Side note:
Anyone have the part number for the adjusting screws for the valve lash? Mine are worn a bit and I think that's why I can't completely get rid of the valve tick.
Also, need a part number on the o-ring that seals between the distributor cap and distributor.
Can't seem to find those two part numbers anywhere.

If you go to the toyotapartseast.com site you can find your part and number. You'll come across something like this (for my 92') and part #'s.

thanks for the link, that's super helpful. Too bad with shipping it'll cost more than the stealership At least I've got a part number now though, just gotta find one for a decent price.
Truck is still running great, except one small hiccup.
If I am not accelerating, just holding a steady speed, steady gas, it almost feel like a small hiccup in the motor. Almost like a cam lope kinda feeling, but I don't think it's that. My only guess is that it's because my spark plugs are a bit fouled up still. I bought some NGK ones at napa, but they are the V power ones and they are all gapped differently and I don't want to mess with gapping them because it feels like you could chip off the tip of the plug because of the V notch in it. THink I will return them and get some Denso plugs.

GREAT to hear it's running good, SC! You'll get the hiccup!

This is at light throttle only? Check your TPS adjustment
http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTricks/TPS/index.shtml
Then check your O2 sensor as a possible alternative.
Could be plugs... but it wasn't on mine when it exhibited similar behaviour. Unplugging my EGR made it better, but not good. The shop which had just put a motor in it told me it was the TPS, after swapping in several O2 sensors.

Well, it's still running great. I haven't been driving it very much, but I am just coming up on my first oil change (doing it early to coincide with 195k miles to make things easy )
I just took a trip to Oregon, about 750 miles each way. I had great power on the way up, I was able to stay in 4th and 5th gear up all the hills that used to put me in 3rd. I got great mileage and it did 70 mph the whole way without complaint.
On the way back I had 1500 lbs of steel and tooling. I had a 1/2 inch thick welding table that weighed 1000 lbs all on it's own. Up the 4300 ft pass I was able to hold 3rd gear, which was awesome! Also it did amazing in the snow (I never even put it in 4x4 because of all the weight hehe). I actually went slower down the pass than up.
Here's a couple pictures and some video.

I also ended up selling the truck to a friend of mine. Miss it a little, but I don't really need 2 yotas and a DD, so I decided to just keep the 81.

Yea, sad to put all this work into this truck to then sell it, but I really don't drive it much. I got a fabrication/welding job very close to my Wife's work, so we just commute together in the BMW. No need for 3 DDable cars anymore.
