My new cylinder head does not the five "guides" for the rocker are assembly to sit on. Do I need those, or will the head bolts keep the assembly from moving once they are torqued down? My old cylinder head had the guides, and, I don't think I can get the old guides out of the head without destroying them and using them in the new head.

Go get the guides. There is a tiny bit of play between the head bolts and the holes in the head and rocker arm. I can't say 100% that that will be enough for something bad to happen, but do you really want to risk it? I'd sure hate to chew up a cam or valves because of 5 $2 parts that I figured I didn't need
