Distributor, timing
I had been having idle issues, which I think are solved now by properly adjusting the TPS. When I was having idle problems, I loosened the nut that holds the distributor in place, and moved it. I would like to make sure I have it back in the right place. How can I do that? Thanks, Josh

Need to know which motor you have.

You would need to jumper two ports in your diagnostic box (forget which ones) and then check timing with a timing light and adjusting distributor accordingly. Or just move it until it appears to be running smoothly and well.

You short terminals te1 and e1 and you need a timing light to accurately set timing. If you don't have one check with your local auto parts store they probably rent one out.

Do you know the timing specs? I'm thinking it should be a -5 BTDC or somewhere around there. Thanks |
On my '88 there is a fuse block in behind the battery (closer to the cab). The te1 and e1 are located in a little covered thingy just in behind the fuse block. Stick a paper clip in te1 and the other end in e1. Grab your timing light and point at the timing mark just above the crankshaft pulley. Look for the notch in the pulley - as you twist the distributor, you should see it move in relation to the timing marks. For the 22RE, set timing to -5 and you are good to go.
