cup holders
 

I tried to search to find a way to fix my cup holder but all I found were pages of modding it to something else...I just want to fix that flappy piece to hold stuff again.
I'm sure others have this problem as well, where something broke off that holds the base of the cup holder. And when you put a can in there it leans back and has room to slip out.
What can be used to hold that base thing up, and still fold in properly?

On my 91, all there is are 2 metal bar type thingys that go on each side to support it. You might be able to bend some out to the same shape from a nail or something; that's about how big around it is. It may be easier to find someone who has the setup so you can pull one off and use it to shape the new ones. Their both the same left and right, but there is an up and down orientation; matter of fact they'll only fit one way I believe because of the bends in them.

Mine pop out every once in a while, mainly when my obnoxious cusoune get's in my truck and slams a bottle of water in the cup holder...

they just pop into place, nothing really holds them in except for the way they wedge in the cup holder assembly...

Would you or someone mind putting a pic of those hinges or whatever that support the cup holder...I have never seen one. I was thinking of using seismic wire or nylon, but yeah id be nice to see how it looked stock.

No pic, but a hint, if you have access to a pick-n-pull: Some Celicas/Cressidas/etc. use the same clips.

these close ups make me wunna wash my truck...

lookin' at iamsuperbleeders pics makes me want to suggest bending the rod as appropriate and extending the bottom (the end that goes into the cup holder ain't gonna let the cup go too far down part) a bit and adding a retaining piece to the end of the rod so it won't fall out... for the life of me, I can't remember the name of the piece, but if you've ever put together a kid's big wheel or something like that, you know that piece that you hammer over the end of the axle so the wheels won't fall off.

/\ I know what ur talking about, and that's not a bad Idea. They sell them at my old job in veriety packs, and now I can't remember what they are called either, lol.

Their like a nut that just pushes on a rod with no threads... push-nut maybe :P

Im not sure if a retainer would work here. The end that is exposed needs to be flush with the cup holder so It can slide back into the dash.

If you make a peice the same size as stock you will be fine. I have only had mine come out once when someone tried to shove a bottle of water into the cup holder.

GLue them in with gorilla glue and they wont EVER come out.

but they need to be able to swivel and slide.

No info, but washing that cup holder sucks! Just put some budweisers in there to hide the dirt, nobody will notice.

Here's another suggestion:
Tie a piece of 20lb test monofiliment to the front of the tray and to the front of the "ain't supposed to let the cup go down too far" bracket.
