Cruise only working with lights off
 

The cruise control on my 95 4runner is only working with my lights off. I've switched most of my lights to LEDs with the exception of the turn signals. I know that cruise doesn't work if there is a problem with any lights so I'm assuming because the LEDs put less load than the standard lights, the systems thinks something's wrong with the lights.

I know I can put resistors on the lights but don't want to do that for all of them. Is there anyway I can bypass the cruise checking lights to work?

Also is the top brake light meant to be a constant on?

Mine works with the lights on but if I turn the turn signal on it kicks offf.

I've never heard that, and my schematics (for a '94) don't show ANY connection from lights to the cruise control circuit. (And why would cruise shut off for a burnt-out turn-signal, for instance?)

On the other hand, most (modern) electronics will shut off during an under-voltage situation. First, does the cruise shut off when you turn on "parking" lights, or only when you go all the way to headlights? The headlights aren't LEDs, so that isn't an issue.

If the cruise shuts off with just parking lights, I'd put a voltmeter on the "ECU-B" fuse (the main power to the cruise ECU), and see if the voltage drops when you turn on the lights. If it drops even one volt, you've got an excess current draw somewhere. (So adding resistors would be the last thing to do.)

Of course, the '95 might be wired a whole 'nother way, so if you have good schematics I'll defer to that.

I second what Scope said low system voltage will knock the cruise off.

It gets low enough the ECU will also shut down.
