Cruise Control wiring at steering wheel (spiral cable)-new switch. Color/function?
I'm attempting to wire a newer toyota cruise control switch (the "stalk kind") into my '90 4runner that has the seperate buttons on the steering wheel. There are (4) wires that come thru the "spiral cable", and control the horn and cruise. Does anybody have a wiring diagram or can anybody tell me what each color of wire does? (i.e. turn on/off, cruise up/down, cancel).
Has anybody done this upgrade before?

Personally, I prefer the steering wheel buttons - but to each, their own!
Your best bet would be a Factory Service Manual schematic.
Good luck on your project!

I would like the steering wheel buttons as well....but I hate the steering wheel, WAY too big. I went to a smaller diameter leather wheel from a newer Toyota (similar to the Tacoma wheel). The cruise control stalk is standard issue Toyota, attached to the side of the wheel. So now I have to figure out how to wire it up
I found a FSM but I can't find the wiring colors. The troubleshooting guide hints at what each one does but doesn't come right out and say it or provide wiring colors I'll keep searching.

If you look at page 3 and 4 of this link:
http://personal.utulsa.edu/~nathan-b...10cruiseco.pdf
Page 4 shows the plug "cruise control switch" with pins 1 thru 5. Then on page 3 you will see a diagram on the upper right labeled "Main switch" and "CC Switch". Terminals are labeled as follows: 3/5, 4/5, 2/5.
What the heck does 3 *slash* 5 mean? Does that mean terminal 3 completes the circuit with terminal 5 and turns something on? I mean, they label it a "wiring diagram" but it doesn't show any wiring colors!! Can anybody who understands these toyota diagrams (or wiring diagrams in general) help me?

I pulled the CC out of my truck. After adding the 35's and SAS with the 3.0 and a 5spd... I just never saw me using it.
I'd like to make the up and down buttons control the sound on the stereo though. Now that I would use.
Not to hijack, but if anyone has ideas on how to accomplish that feat I am all ears.

If you can get hold of the EWDs they have the color code for each wire. My 93 truck FSM has the EWDs in the back, if I get a chance I'll look them up.

In my 93 truck EWD the white with black stripe wire goes from the switch to ground, Green with yellow stripe goes from the switch to the CC ECU, Green with black stripe goes from the switch to the CC main relay. This is for the CC main switch (ie... resume/accel, set/coast, cancel)
