Cranks, Sparks, No Start: Who's Pulled Their Fuel Tank?
Ok, just got my 22RE back from headgasket replacement. Drove a few hundred miles, no problem. Left the doctor's office yesterday, cranked for days, no start. Popped the hood, grounded the coil lead, spark looked strong. Tried jumpering the fuel pump, couldn't hear anything. Thinking it's the fuel pump, I got a tow home and replaced it last night. Jumpered the new one, sounds good. Still won't start. Pulled the banjo fitting on the cold start injector: no fuel.
My question: When pulling the tank last night, I noticed that the pressure line coming off the top of the fuel pump went to a threaded steel line about 8" long that is threaded on the backside, just before the frame rail. I was surprised to find that this piece was flexible! Looked like the metal on either end was slightly pinched, too. Is it supposed to be that way, or should it just be a solid piece of metal tubing? Wondering if it's pinched and not allowing fuel through. How could I test that? Crack open the fitting to the fuel regulator?
This is my daily driver, so I really need to get it running today. Thanks!

line should not be pinched ever on the fuel system. Find a way to get all the lines free and clear. You could also if you wanted to wiggle in there crack the line at the fuel filter and see if you're getting fuel at least to there. And on the that note of the fuel filter i hope after you replaced the fuel pump you did the fuel filter as well right?

Fuel filter only has 50k on it and tank is clean. I assume it's good. I'll try cracking the line to it, though.
I'm wondering if the line did break, and there's some sort of lining on the inside that is still holding it together, making it flexible.

More than "slightly" pinched! Once I pulled that thing out, I can't believe it was even running!
Took it to a local industrial place and they re-used the fittings onto a slightly longer piece of braided hose. Slapped it on, fired right off. Runs like a champ.
PS- Dealer wanted $65 for factory hose (ready to pinch again), got my braided done for $18.
Back to the fire roads...
