Hi all,

I just dropped a new engine into this guy and when I tried to turn it on, it cranks but doesn't catch and fire up. When I hold it for a few seconds the engine will make a "pffffffffffff" sound every few seconds or so (very intermittent sometimes it won't happen).

What are some common things to look into?

Is the distributor 180 degrees out?

x3 check dist position and ensure your plug wires aren't crossed up as well.

Helpful hint when placing the distributor in the rotor will tun almost 15-20 degrees, you have to almost place the rotor at #3 plug wire position on the cap, once it goes it the rotor should point @ #1, if you point it at #1 there is a good chance once it's in that it will almost point @ #2 plug wire position.

Mine had a bad ground under the ignitor bracket, 2-3k I think. anyway fixed that grounding issue and got injector pulse back. Hot wired the cold start injector (3 sec max) and off it went. Also the ground to the top of the intake manifold will kick your butt too.

For people saying check timing; 100% correct. The beast now turns on and idles SUPER smooth. Just a little funny starting up.

i seem to be having the same issue..its a 93 3.0 sr5 p/u..the teeth on my dist were worn down just replaced it..turns over but just makes a whining sound like the teeth arent catching..help on how you got it to fire please

I noticed there was two types of routers, is your long or short? I swapped my engine and used the one that came on the engine (short one) and it works, then there is another that is likely 4 inches longer.

i honestly couldnt tell ya..ive had the truck for about 8 months so working on em is pretty new to me..its the same length as the old one though which worked fine till the teeth wore down and cracked. im thinking the timing could be off cause of the missing spaces of where the teeth were didnt grfab the timing gear i just dont know much about messing with timing

well, you'll need a tool to time it. But basically we timed it by unscrewing the bolts holding the router in, and adjusting it while someone tries to turn it over just to get it fired up and do the fine adjusting from there (there is a bolt with a slider that lets you adjust it a bit)

alright i know what you mean, i started doing that but it still wouldnt go..so i just gotta keep turning the gear till it hits the right spot on the timing gear
