Cold weather CV boots? One brand better than the other?
Anybody here from Alaska, Yukon, NWT, Nunavit, Labrador???
Is there such a thing as Severe Duty Boots?
1990 4Runner, 22RE 4x4....
What kind of life are you getting out of your CV shaft boots- I figured 4+ years, but it looks like after 2 years the boots freeze and finally split. Is there a different brand out there using better quality boots? Apparantly OEM doesn't last much longer either. I don't even go offroad to get stabbed by a rock or stick to make it all worthwhile;( Just dealing with lower winter temps of -20 to-40deg. This sucks.

These ones are $38 for the kit to do the whole shaft. I talked to Toyota here and the oem doesn't last much longer than the aftermarket. He did say that 90's Ford lasted very well but were made of thermoplastic- which I hope these are, ordered 4 sets. We're over the hump of winter anyway- the problem is the market here is so small- dealing with -40deg for a month out of the year- but I hate treating cv shaft like another 'tune up' too big a job. My 89 chev's are original in the south. He said also that besides materials the newer designes were better with more ribs sharing the flex.

I was just looking into this myself. My current CV boots are destroyed, although the axles still seem to be holding. I picked up a set of salvaged CV axles, and although the boots on these are still intact, they've got some minor surface cracking and I can tell they're not long for this world. In Fairbanks, CV boots don't last terribly long, so I'd like to try to find something durable before I put this new set of axles on.
After doing some research, I've managed to find these. http://www.rockfordcv.com/rcvboot.htm which seem to be made of the thermoplastic that dfarr67 mentioned. I'll be ordering a full set of inner and outer and see how it goes.
