Clutch went out on my yota??

I don't know much mechanically but I'm motivated to learn as I go. I was up wheeling one day and my yota keep over heating and turned off. I got a 20r in it. Before that I was getting a friend out of the mud so I was playing with the clutch alot you could smell it.. Finally it went out I was driving up a hill 3rd 30mph and clutch felt slippery? And very awkward feeling then but you can feel your feet is used too.. But it just stop going.. Try engaging first gear wouldn't go anywhere.. It's in my driveway parked waiting for pay day but I wanted to get someone's knowledge on what it might be.. Specifically so I can purchase that instead of waste money on something not needed. Please& thanks for taking your time to read this.

I just had the same thing happen to me in my 91 toyota pickup a few months back, bought a clutch kit at autozone for 80$ took me and my dad and a few hours and we had the tranny dropped and out and my new clutch in same day.

Thanks for replying toymadness! And that's awesome. I'm planing on buying a whole clutch kit also on pay day, and install it this weekend with a buddy. 80$ isn't so bad I'm sure I can afford that. Do you have any tips or have something I should know when installing my clutch kit?

Use a transmission jack, you could probably rent one from a tool loaner store. It will make the job so much easier. Replace the Pilot bearing in the back of the motor. There is a thread on pilot bearing removal showing how to get it out if it is difficult.

I have several large Phillip screw drivers that I use to act as guide dowels to alighn the holes of the transmission to the engine. Stabbing the transmission shaft into the pilot bearing and getting everything to alighn up is usually the most difficult part. Here is where using a tranny jack comes in handy. Take your time and dont force it so as not to damage the pressure plate.

It is a good idea to have your flywheel resurfaced when doing a clutch replacement. How is the seal between the tranny and tcase? If it is leaking, now is a great time to fix it as well. You can get a new paper seal from Toyota for $2.80 ( What I paid) and check your driveshaft seals as well. They werent much if I recall right.

Terry said it all better than I would of... Me n my dad used a tranny jack jus dropped it down and backed it up did our thing then pushed it forward and back up in, nvr even had to jack up the truck. No lift on my truck either so u should be clear. Also I wish I would of had my clutch plate resurfaced I haven't noticed any slip since I put in the new clutch but I'm sure ill notice it sooner now than if I woulda takin the time to take care of that.

I have done it twice, make sure you get all the bolts out, the top ones are kinda tough. It should be a easy job with two people.

Investing in a ratcheting wrench for the top bolts like Mr. Utah mentioned is a great investment. I believe it is a 17mm. Those are the worse bolts to get at in my opinion.

yep ,top 2 bolts are a one cocktail job! a trans jack is your best friend!!!!!

Defiantly going to my near by parts store to rent out a tranny jack any know how they charge some$$ for the whole day? Couple of hours. Also resurfacing the flywheel didn't know I would have to do that but it seems it's the best thing to do.. Also that deal between my tcase&tranny IS leaking so 2$ for that baby, and I think I'm better off getting new drive shaft seals! Thanks everyone I really appreciate your interest and your willing to help me out with information&tips! I'm new to yota tech and I enjoy how ppl take there time to help other ppl out. Thanks alot
