Clutch question
My brother and I are swapping 3.0's in my 94 t4r. I'm putting in a new clutch @ the same time. Any recommendations? The truck will see some offroading but nothing super serious. Currently have 189k on factory clutch w/ some offroading in the last 50k w/ no issues. Thanks

A lot of folks have gone with the Marlin Crawler Heavy Duty and like it.

OEM all the way.

Just an FYI. If you only plan on ding limited wheeling you might consider going OEM. I'm replacing the clutch in my 89 next week with an OEM replacement from NAPA. It'll cost me about 120$ out the door for all the little parts. I wanted to go MC pretty badly but am on a budget and I don't do any serious wheeling and figure if the factory one made it over 200,000 miles then an OEM replacement will last at least half that with some weekend wheeling.
Just a thought. |
Just be sure you at least refinish the pressure plate, or replace it.

I replaced mine with a Centerforce clutch kit, and it has been fine for 40,000 miles. You should have the flywheel refinished and use those special hi-strengh bolts to reinstall it. Someone on another thread a few days ago put his back on with hardware store bolts and said they all broke off in operation.
I should have used a Toyota throw out bearing. I bought an off brand that looked good. It maks a tiny bit of noise sometimes. Replacing the clutch in a 4wd 4runner is a tough job, and you don't want to have to go back in there. |
