I aint ever seen it done but I am sure its possible. Just drill the holes for mounting them and run the wiring through the a-pillar.

they are also called high five.
personally I think they look funny on small trucks.

i've always heard 'em called chicken lights...but on a 4runner, they might not look as good, simply b/c you wouldn't have enough room to space 'em out like on the big ole f-250s...

i like them blacked out. should look alright. wire them up temp just sitting on the roof, maybe double sided taped down. leave it like that for a day or two, see how you like it before you make holes up there.

TORTIS Dec 14, 2007 03:23 PM

I don't know about putting them on the roof, but I have a lighted "Truck Visor", and it makes the truck look damn good at night, and during the day.

Have a peak..

dunno about going with the clearance lights, I've never personally liked them, but hey, if it makes you happy.

I've thought about getting one of those "MoonVisor" things with the lights but I was'nt sure how it would look on our trucks... do you find it adds a lot of wind resistance bigtruck?

edit BTW in that first pic it looks like your box is sitting just a little out of position, not quite in line with the cab, but it may be just a trick of the camera...

Jay351 Dec 14, 2007 04:42 PM

Im pretty sure they have holes to let air though.
I feel they only suit fullsize trucks. They look a little goofy on mini trucks.

The wind resistance was so tremendous that I took off the visor. If cosmetics is your interest, I think it looks great, but as far as power and fuel economy, that visor def. puts a hurting on those categories.

And yes, in that picture, the bed is horribly misaligned, thanks to a bent frame. As of November 15th or so, the bed became inline, ahaha. I got my frame straightened for free! I heart technical colleges. :P

I personally think it looks good on certain trucks, not just full sized, but hey, we all have our opinions. :P But, yes, there are air channels cut in, however, I believe the majority of my wind drag comes from the fact that the visor wasn't fitted for my truck. It's been modified to fit...

I think it came from an S10, but I am unsure, as I have never met the previous owner.

aviator Dec 16, 2007 03:39 PM

they do make one that is supposed to be designed for our trucks but I don't know how close a "fit" it is... It would be nice if someone made a smaller clearance light to fit our trucks... sort of something between what there is now and one of those windshield washer nozzle lights...
as a side note if your state/province requires pick-ups to have commercial plates and you have one of those lights burned out the cops or DOT can give you a ticket...

az4x4runner Dec 16, 2007 04:37 PM

I don't know anything about how those would look on a 4runner, personally though, I don't think they'd look right. But for some reason when I saw this thread I thought of these...

Yeah thats kinda what I thought too... maybe I'll get "mod-ing" and edit the thread title to correct the error...
