check engine problem!!
i got a 93 pickup 5 speed with the 3.0L engine. i just got it about a month ago and trying to it back to running condition. im getting about 10 mpg right now, but i got a check engine light on. i know i need to do a tune up with filters spark plugs and wires, but i think the o2 sensor might be bad (the reason the check engine light is on im assuming) how do you figure out how to get the codes thats causing the check engine light and where can you tell what the codes mean? thanks

Underneath the hood is a small rectangle black box labeled "diagnostics"
under the cap will be the labels of what all the ports mean. You need to jump the E1 to T1 terminals. then start counting the flashing lights. First set of flashes will be the first number, second set of flashes will be the second number (ie 5 flashes, pause, 6 flashes would be code 56) codes are listed here: http://autorepair.about.com/library/ts/bl-dtcs-48a.htm O2 sensor would be code 21, or 28 |
btw the picture shows the port by the brake booster. I think thats wrong on the trucks and 4runners, it should be mounted to the fuse box under the hood on the pass side.

Its actually E1 to TE1
|
yea yea. We always just call it T1. there isn't any other one that says T1 lol. But ToyTech is right. TE1
|
lol. I just had to make sure the guy didnt freak out when he couldnt find t1. lol. codes 25-26 could also be an o2 sensor as they are rich/lean codes. code 52 is knock sensor, 71 is egr. Those are the usual codes you will run into

deathcougar, where on that website is the codes?? i dont see any codes at all. all i see is a bunch of random automotive articles?
also i see the diagnostics thing, now when u mean jump do i just take a length of copper wire and insert it in both? and what flashes? the headlights? |
did you click that link? they are right there on the page I listed. I just double checked the link and its good. Right in the middle of the page.
Yes just take a length of wire and insert them in both. the check engine light will flash inside the cab. All the info is available on that page as to how to get the codes. |
ok thanks deathcougar, i understand how to do it now, but that link still isnt working,it keeps sending me here instead
http://autorepair.about.com/?once=true& no idea why.... maybe could you just copy and paste the list for me? thanks |
nvm manually went through the website and found this page
http://autorepair.about.com/library/...htm?once=true& think thats what you were trying to show me... thanks alot! |
