CB Radio Install

I'm going to install a Cobra CB in my 94 pickup. any good ideas on location? Would like to have it hanging where my rearview mirror is, anyone else done this? I'd appreciate any pic's or ideas! thanks:camp2:

Overhead is a bad idea, IMO- if you roll the truck, guess what your head is likely to hit. ;)

Im actually buying a CD radio this friday... buying everything off of amazon.com for 134 and some change. I want to mount mine in the ash tray :)

if I roll my truck, the last thing that I'm goingo to worry about bumping my head on is a CB radio :P

I'm not all too fond of the "overhead" mounts myself, but to each his own. I have seen some neat installs though, and the one I'd like to duplicate prividing I can find a unit small enough is mounting it in the pocket where the pull-out ash tray is; to me, that's wasted space, as I don't smoke, and there's nothing in there but a few pennys, and a spare 40amp fuse for my stereo amplifier I think :hillbill:

You'll worry about it when you have a CB shaped dent in your head.

Heres all the stuff i'll be getting... I guess you can use it as a reference? or if someone can say im doing something wrong, like as if im missing something? haha think it adds up to 134 dollars and some change.

I have a 1990 4runner and did a door mount with a large cb took a little bit of work but looks and works good

How hard is the wiring for this? I have always wanted to do one. Couldnt i just run a connection from the battery and call it good since it has a power switch on it?

its not the same truck, but this worked really well for me. the mirror bracket made a perfect mount. i just got one of those replacement glue on types to go beneath it.

The wiring is super easy, and according to every C.B. site your supposed to run it right to the batt.

mount it on the passengers side trans tunnel so the face is pointed upward and is easy to see from the drivers seat gonna have to give it a little bit of a off center twist to the rear but works well.

I did my Galaxy 99 like that in my 90 4runner and it is twice the size of the ashtray size radio's gives good view of face so you can see the channel face and the rest of the controls then you can get a mic hanger and hang the mic from the rear view mirror for easy access to it as well.

As long as you add a fuse in line no problem

2DoorRunner 11-09-2009 07:44 PM

So how much would all of that cost at the store? I bet you saved a ton by getting it on amazon.
Im so getting one now. But its going to have a huge antennae!

You should go down to the truck stop in marysville to the radio shop there and get a nice used /repaired radio from them cheaper then even amazon then you can match a complete set up and see it together before you buy and how it will look and work together.

YEA they will and give you good advise as what will work best together and match your radio to antenna for best output and reception

Sweet thanks man, i will check that out. How much do you think it will all cost?

mines bolted to the side of the transmission well just to the right of the shifter, right by the passengers left leg. it stays out of the way there and is within easy reach
