A 7" cutoff wheel would go through that exhaust pipe in about 30 seconds.

A 4" might be big enough even. And that would be even faster.

Or a sawzall would work too. That'd probably be easiest.

That's alot of noise; using those power tools. It should attract alot of attention. I'm surprised no one noticed.

i live in kirkland washington and havent' had this happen yet. But now i feel like i should fab up a sheild or skid plate that covers the converter. Maybe use some 1/4 inch alluminum or mild steel. Anything to make it more difficult to pull.

build a skid plate that extends far enough back to cover the cat, add louvers or slots in the skid to keep temps down

but then again there's no emmision tests here in Fl...

and I know those SOB's aren't cheap; I had to replace one on my S10 I had a few years ago after running over a brick in the friggin road and demolishing it

Once again, California is leading the nation... seems you have to have a license to recycle converters now.
We even have a checklist for the shop to fill out and keep on file for 4-5 years, along with all the receipts and warrantee information for the new converter when the shop removes / replaces a converter.

Stolen metal is a problem here too. A friend of mine had a house for sale, he was not living in it, broken into and all the copper pipe was stolen. There was a car dealer that has some cats cut off one night.

similar things happen around here; typically they break into contruction sites and rip all of the copper wiring out...

and it's a shame ya know, it really is...

if some of these theafs were to put half the effort into obtaining a job as much as they do breaking and entering and then stripping the copper from the walls of a house, then they'd have a legal income...

I know times are tuff and jobs are getting harder and harder to obtain, but comon...

I completly agree.

We have to work for everything we have and they come along with no regard for others.

I even read about about an Elementary school that had all the copper stripped from teh air conditioning unit on the roof . . . . over $50,000 worth of damage for <$800 worth of copper. Now where do they get the money from? Educational programs?
