Cast Rings in Reman Long Blocks

I have heard that most Reman Long Blocks come with Cast Piston Rings. I hear these things will last about 20k miles +/- and then begin smoking. Is this true?

What are the OEM rings made out of?

I am a little hesitant to drop $1350 on a long block if the engine wont last very long. I'd rather just rebuild my current engine with good stuff.

Thanks
Shawn

Its prob going to be cast pistons you are talking about as most are not rings as they are more like a spring.
Your oem pistons are cast you would only need forged pistons in high boost,N2O,or high compression applications.

By the way where are you looking at reman engs at? You might also look at a JDM eng with 30-50,000 miles on it

Cool

He means the rings.
I can't speak for a 3vz-e, but I can speak for Toyota engines in general, Quoting every FSM engine pre-face I've ever read
The No.1 compression ring is made of steel and the No.2 compression ring is made of cast iron. The oil ring is made of a combination of steel and stainless steel.
If you've got a choice, grab a set of Deves Swedish steel rings. They're widely known to seal great & gain 3-5% power across the board. That'd be like... 4-7bhp nearly free on a completely stock engine.

rings are typically cast iron, moly refers to the coating that helps them break in faster!
